Big doe to end the year.

Recommended Posts

Finished off my 2016 season with a very heavy, mature doe yesterday afternoon. Been after this old gal all season. Had her on cam in October in day light but by Halloween, she was mostly moving through the area I was hunting in the dark, 9 pm or later since 6 day. Took a chance the recent extreme cold would have them on their feet a bit earlier to feed. Had a 2.5 yr old 7 point browse through my area about 4:30 pm but I was there for the big doe and she came through about 4:45. Put the broadhead right through her shoulder. She scampered off about 15 yards, stood there unsure of what to do, then fell over. She's heavy, hard to tell from pic but her nose is near the rafter and feet on the ground. I almost always guess conservatively and I'm guessing 140 on this one.

Thanks all.

Put her on my scale yesterday in the garage, it's not an official or certified scale but it read 143. I should probably calibrate it to see how far of it is. Accurate number or not, it's the biggest doe I've killed in NJ ever, biggest I've killed in a while anywhere.

Nice one Doug!  Those old girls can be more of a challenge than a wise old buck.  Good job!
