  3. Just wondering how many are involved in taking the next generation hunting and teaching them about the outdoors? I don't mean just telling them about it. . .I mean actually partnering with them and helping them be successful in any type of hunting?
  4. Greetings to all, I'm here to tell you about a new hunting tournament available in New Jersey and other states. It's called Double Team Outdoors! But first, you don't know me. . .so please let me introduce myself. My name is Joel (formerly a Pennsylvania native . . .specifically Stroudsburg, PA and Mt. Pocono, PA. . .Just across the border from NJ) and I am a huge advocate for getting the next generation involved in the outdoors. As many of you know, our numbers are dropping immensely. I have been involved for the past 8 years now with a national organization called Polestar Outdoors. We have taken youth on over 1100 hunts for everything from rabbits to antelope to deer to elk, etc. We have had several hunts featured on The Best of the West show, etc and most can be found on Youtube. Many of our pictures and info are on our web page at www.polestar-outdoors.org or find us on facebook and instagram. Recently, a friend of mine and I have begun Double Team Outdoors: The Worlds Greatest Hunting Tournament! Again, the goal of Double Team Outdoors is to help get our young people involved. But, we can only provide the opportunity. We need YOU to come alongside these young people, get involved, and join the tournament with them. We have partnered with some AWESOME COMPANIES and have some incredible prizes and benefits for those who join the tournament. Companies like Quietkat, Scentlok, Blocker, Buck Knives, The Best of the West, Maven, Exodus Trail Cameras, Star City Whitetails, Polestar Outdoors, OZ, have come on board and others are wanting to come on board! Please check us out at www.doubleteamoutdoors.com. You can find out all about the tournament! We are also on Facebook and Instagram at Double Team Outdoors. NEW JERSEY IS IN ONE OF THE EASTERN REGIONS OF THE TOURNAMENT! You can find the rules of the tournament and pre-register also at our website. The website will be fully operational next week and we can't wait to see all those spring gobblers that our tournament teams will enter into the tournament! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. If you feel the same way about bringing up the next generation in the outdoors, would you please LIKE our pages, SHARE our pages, and JOIN the tournament! WE ALSO ARE LOOKING FOR MORE PARTNERS! Thanks for your time, Happy Hunting, Joel Proffit Double Team Outdoors
  5. Hey everyone.....any advice on which public areas to hunt in zones 12 or 14? Done most of my hunting up in Zone 2 in the Delaware Water Gap area. This part of the state is fairly new to me in regards to hunting. Not looking for your personal hunting spots, just which WMAs you'd recommend or have had success in. Thanks in advance, and happy hunting!

  7. Hi everyone-sort if new to turkey hunting. Want to go out this spring with my daughter. Concerned with bringing her on public property. Open to any suggestion.
  8. Hey Guys & Gals... The wife and I are considering going out for spring turkey this year for the very first time..ever. Outside of reading the regs and practicing on a diaphragm call, I know absolutely nothing about where to go and what to look for in a set. We don't have any real access to private land, so we would have to look at public land. Does anybody or would anyone be willing to offer any advice as to where to go or what exactly to look for? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
  9. This was not only my first turkey hunting season, it was my first hunting season of any kind, ever. At 29, I realize I am getting a little bit of a late start, but what I've learned this past week makes me optimistic for the days in the woods to come. Mainly, the people that you meet whether it be on these forums, practicing at the range, at the education course, pro-shop, etc.; the people I have met surrounding the hunting culture in NJ, in general, have been awesome. As a younger man, I had a different impression of hunters, as I am sure most of the general public does. Contrary to popular belief, the people I have met have been exceedingly friendly, helpful and humbling in their knowledge and willingness to share it with a newbie like myself. With their help, coupled with my own research, I went out to scout several public hunting grounds this fall, with mixed success. My latest sit in my climber stand this past Saturday was much more action packed, with multiple deer passing underfoot, all out of my bow range or with an obstructed shot. My heart was racing just the same. I will be sure to chase that feeling again soon, hopefully with some degree of success, but if not, that's ok too. The overwhelming lesson that seems to be echoing in my head as the time ticks by in that stand seems to be, PATIENCE. A virtue that is applicable to most facets of life, but rarely practiced these days. The parallel to my golfing days was also glaring. Golf is a frustrating game, that can get your blood pressure rising if you're not careful. But it's that one shot, that moment of blissful success that keeps you coming back the next time, and the time after that. I don't golf nearly as much as I used to, but I will be spending more time in the near future in the outdoors just the same trading in my putter for a compound bow. And if i don't hit a turkey with my car before Thanksgiving, that bow will be sure to turn some heads in the frozen turkey aisle as I let one loose on the biggest Butterball available! Thank you to everyone who takes the time to talk to and guide young hunters along the way and Happy Thanksgiving.
  10. Hey all.... so new hunter here, went out for turkey on Saturday morning in Zone 2, Flatbrook-Roy WMA. I didn't see or even hear any turkey, although did see some signs of scratching on the ground. Any advice for a newbie? Is this a good area to hunt? Was the weather a factor? It was 34 at sunrise, and got to mid-40s when I had to leave at 1pm. Going to head back out on Friday and/or Saturday again. Anyone have any luck in Zone 2 or could recommend a location in that area I should try out? I read some decent things about Walpack WMA, but not any solid info for this Fall. Anyway, thanks in advance for any information. Happy Hunting!

  13. I was talking to my buddy DJ on his drive home to North Dakota from Ohio the other day and he said he was taking his step son out for a little turkey hunting behind their place once he got home. Guess it didn't take too long for them to knock a couple down! DJ has always been an incredible friend and father, hats off to him for all he's done for everyone and anyone that comes into his life! Here's his story from today... And a couple pictures of he and Matt!
