  1. Hi all. New turkey hunter here. Been hunting Assunpink WMA on the Rt. 130 side (the area round the dam). Was out every day this week and managed to see a few hens -- no toms. I may have heard one or two distant gobbles after dawn, but I haven't even gotten a pre-dawn shock gobble. On two mornings, however, I managed to call in a coyote. Came running in like I'd rung the dinner bell. Clearly, this coyote had done this before. There are also deer kill carcasses everywhere -- the kind of coyote work I used to see when I lived and hunted in West Milford in Passaic County. Today, I used the last hour of the afternoon to check the area back by the Turnpike to see if I could locate a bird. Deer kills everywhere (and a Canada goose). I'm starting to wonder about how much damage these coyotes could be doing in the area. It seems that right now, we're in a natural lull in turkey activity, so that could account for the lack of toms. It could be that I suck at calling (likely). It could be that the coyotes have taken out a great deal of the turkeys. Or, it could be some combination of all of the above. My question for you is, if you were me, would you stick it out on this ground for Week B? Find new ground? Change tactics? Take up golf? Thanks!
  2. Well guys I am stoked for this season! I’ve got some great help from guys off the forums over the years that’s helped me a ton. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited before. I see a bunch of zones that don’t usually sell out in the lottery, sell out this year, so I am sure there are a ton of newbies out there. I figured let’s get a nice thread going with a bunch of pics from years past. Post a pic, tell us a story! Couple birds from last season. Including my girlfriends first bird.
  3. You would think that something so large would fly horribly, nope they fly great off my trad bow. Full length 300 spine out of a 40 pound pow and they're darts! Now just need to get a gobbler to co-operate . 4" cut gives some wiggle room if he decides to move his neck.
  4. Hey gang- Over the past 2 weeks since we launched LandTrust (like Airbnb for booking hunting trips on private land) we've spoken with a lot of you, and hunters all over the country, and are starting to incorporate your feedback. The main feedback we've heard is around pricing. As with any new market, we're trying to figure out with our Landowners what pricing should look like and in that effort, we're working with our NJ/NY properties (click here to see them: http://bit.ly/nynjlistings) to test out a couple things: Pricing for the properties will be per day for up to 2 hunters. This immediately makes the hunt more fun because you can bring your buddy and twice as affordable since you're splitting the cost with your buddy. Now a deer factory like Odowd Farm West is only $87/day if you split it with your hunting partner! Discounts for longer bookings. If you'd like to book a property for a week or longer, Landowners will generally be happy to offer discounted rates. Messaging with Landowners before making booking requests. We know there are questions you may have for the Landowners before you're ready to pull the trigger on booking a hunt so we've now enabled you to make Enquiries before you make a booking request. We've already had hunters in multiple states go on their first LandTrust hunts (myself included!) who've really enjoyed them and we're looking forward to many more of you getting out in the field through LandTrust. As always, we want your feedback (good/bad/ugly) so we can make the product & experience better for you. Comment in the thread or feel free to text us at 406.300.5755 with any questions/comments/feedback and sign up for LandTrust today if you haven't already! Nic
  5. Hey guys- I've posted this in a couple replies to people looking for places to hunt this season but figured I'd post here as well so more folks get a chance to see it... We're about to launch LandTrust which is 'Airbnb for hunting trips' on private land and we've got 18 beautiful farms representing over 1300 acres in 3 zones ~1hr from NYC in the Stewartsville area. We've also got a couple properties in the Catskills who've signed up. This is a great alternative to expensive annual leases. You can simply book trips on private land and pay for the days you actually hunt and hunt different properties throughout the season. We're going live with the site in a couple weeks (in time for bow season) and you can sign up here (https://nj.landtrust.com/sportsmen/) to be notified soon as we do so you can book hunting trips on these properties and more for this hunting season. I personally photographed these farms last week and they're all beautiful with corn/soybeans and woods surrounding them. Properties will have turkeys, whitetail, & geese (especially the farm right next to the Delaware!). Really looking forward to helping you guys get out on some great properties this season! Nic
  6. Is anyone looking for a turkey hunting partner? My hunting buddy is swamped with work and failed to get a tag this spring. I have a tag for Zone 14 Period B if anyone needs a partner or wouldn't mind one extra guy tagging along. Respond to this post if interested. Looking to meet new hunters and gain some experience in a new rea of hunting.
  7. Who is ready to roll one? Just around the corner now. We are going to have the ION HD camera rolling, hope to capture some on film. Who is using a camera and what kind of setup?
  8. So I been a little tired from all the Crossbow talk so I decided to let my cat drive back from the vets office today and was wondering what everyone is using for Turkey Calls this year (like your favorite call)and what calls have been most successful for you. I know a lot of you guys have some serious custom calls.
  9. I am filming a program for online distribution. We are looking for a turkey hunter for filming Thursday May 18th or Friday May 19th. If interested, please contact Robert Gourley at robertegourley@gmail.com. Our site: cookingwildllc.com
  10. Hey Guys & Gals... The wife and I are considering going out for spring turkey this year for the very first time..ever. Outside of reading the regs and practicing on a diaphragm call, I know absolutely nothing about where to go and what to look for in a set. We don't have any real access to private land, so we would have to look at public land. Does anybody or would anyone be willing to offer any advice as to where to go or what exactly to look for? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
  11. My buddy DJ took a trip from ND to OH to hunt his family's property and got this nice gobbler on 04/24/2013! Just thought I'd share!

  13. OK boys and girls, let's post up those turkey hunting reports! I figure we can keep a running thread on the hunts throughout the season, along with any pictures and videos you guys have! I added a 2013 Turkey Hunting album under the Member Albums where anyone can post pics of their hunts, and/or feel free to create your own personal album to add photos to as well! Good luck out there, be safe and have fun!
