  1. First time posting here, but I have a question about hunting ettiquette. My house backs up to a wildlife management area so I have the wonderful luxury of easy access to deer hunting. I'm relatively new to hunting (started with rabbits 7 years ago and got into deer about 4 years ago, just got my archery license this year). I have a climbing stand but have been working the same general spot since I started. I had seen an old ladder stand, but have never seen anyone go to it, and this year I've been out a lot. I try and keep an eye on it and have typically tset up about 100 yards away, regardless if anyone is there or not. Well last night, as I was climbing down from the tree, I started hearing a guy (who I did not see until this moment) yell to, I assume his kid, that he's had the stand up for f***ing five years and what kind of a**hole would set up right here. So I yelled out "hello?" and he starts yelling at me that I should have walked around to make sure no one else was here, and that he's been here for 5 years and it's his spot. I told him I never saw him, I can't see the stand from this spot, and that I also have been around a bunch the last few years, too. Then it appeared that he was waiting by his car to confront me further, but I just simply took the trail back to my house and he sped away. I decided to move my spot to avoid more confrontation, but, as a new hunter, I do want to know if I broke hunter ettiquette. To me, it doesn't seem right to set up a stand for years and claim the spot as your own, especially if you aren't going back very often. I also think he should have just talked to me, because I would be more than willing to work around him. But as I mentioned, I'm still new so I'm trying to learn as much as possible! Thank you!
  2. Hi Everyone, My name is Wade Stein and I am currently the President of the NJSFSC, since May 2020. Any questions, please visit our website (www.njsfsc.org) or email me at wslittleguy@hotmail.com Thanks

  4. Didn't want to hijack the bear post, so here is another. Would like to do a father & son hunt and prefer deer. Looking to avoid planes, if possible. Older son is graduating college this weekend and younger son is 16, so looking to create a memory. Thanks for any help and info.
  5. Just wondering how many are involved in taking the next generation hunting and teaching them about the outdoors? I don't mean just telling them about it. . .I mean actually partnering with them and helping them be successful in any type of hunting?
  6. Greetings to all, I'm here to tell you about a new hunting tournament available in New Jersey and other states. It's called Double Team Outdoors! But first, you don't know me. . .so please let me introduce myself. My name is Joel (formerly a Pennsylvania native . . .specifically Stroudsburg, PA and Mt. Pocono, PA. . .Just across the border from NJ) and I am a huge advocate for getting the next generation involved in the outdoors. As many of you know, our numbers are dropping immensely. I have been involved for the past 8 years now with a national organization called Polestar Outdoors. We have taken youth on over 1100 hunts for everything from rabbits to antelope to deer to elk, etc. We have had several hunts featured on The Best of the West show, etc and most can be found on Youtube. Many of our pictures and info are on our web page at www.polestar-outdoors.org or find us on facebook and instagram. Recently, a friend of mine and I have begun Double Team Outdoors: The Worlds Greatest Hunting Tournament! Again, the goal of Double Team Outdoors is to help get our young people involved. But, we can only provide the opportunity. We need YOU to come alongside these young people, get involved, and join the tournament with them. We have partnered with some AWESOME COMPANIES and have some incredible prizes and benefits for those who join the tournament. Companies like Quietkat, Scentlok, Blocker, Buck Knives, The Best of the West, Maven, Exodus Trail Cameras, Star City Whitetails, Polestar Outdoors, OZ, have come on board and others are wanting to come on board! Please check us out at www.doubleteamoutdoors.com. You can find out all about the tournament! We are also on Facebook and Instagram at Double Team Outdoors. NEW JERSEY IS IN ONE OF THE EASTERN REGIONS OF THE TOURNAMENT! You can find the rules of the tournament and pre-register also at our website. The website will be fully operational next week and we can't wait to see all those spring gobblers that our tournament teams will enter into the tournament! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. If you feel the same way about bringing up the next generation in the outdoors, would you please LIKE our pages, SHARE our pages, and JOIN the tournament! WE ALSO ARE LOOKING FOR MORE PARTNERS! Thanks for your time, Happy Hunting, Joel Proffit Double Team Outdoors
  7. Unfortunately, I haven't had as much time to get in the woods as often as I'd like this year. I plan on getting in the woods starting next Friday through the following weekend and wanted to see if anyone had any feedback to provide pertaining to any rutting or pre-rut activity they're experiencing in zone 2. I walked some of my areas this morning and haven't see too much buck signs aside from a few scrapes, so wanted to see what everyone else was seeing out there. Reading about some early rut action on here so hoping I didn't miss it!!
  8. Well off to a good start this morning forgot my milk crate at home so no seat in blind. . Drop quiver on the way in had to walk half way back to truck . But still better then working. Good luck to all out. Out for first time in zone 8
  9. So I picked up a new blind today and my question is do I set it up now and allow the deer to get used to it or do I wait until the season? I am the only one who hunts the property and I will be securing it to leave up until at least Christmas. Thanks for any advice.
  10. With all the awesome taxidermy stuff being posted, I thought I would ask about how to best prepare a buck, after harvesting, for mounting?? Maybe wishful thinking on my part, but just in case, I want to do it right. Thanks for any info.
  11. Deer I Had on trail cam I wanted to share with your guys.. extreme case of fibrosis on this buck. We ended up taking him out towards the end of the season. Poor guy... Fish and game says this wont effect the meat on the deer but the warts may start effecting their eye sight and eating which would kill it... would you eat this???
  12. So, i got a Winchester SXP Black Shadow Deer gun a couple weeks ago. Due to Murphy's new laws for private transfers, i had to meet the guy at a dealer. FBI delayed me! But the next day, after hours upon hours of anxiety, i was cleared. I go in to puck it up today. This is my first ever slug gun, in excited to start testing different brands of ammo and see how this thing shoots. If anyone on here had or has a Winchester sxp, i would love to hear from you. My plan is to get a barrel for turkey season sand switch out barrels as needed. Hopefully this 12 guage is the only one I'll need for a while.
  13. Hi all, Longtime Pennsylvania hunter here, came to NJ and hunted a friend's farm this year for the first time. Managed to snag 3 does over the course of a long weekend and upon his recommendation took them to Hunter's Butcher in Adelphia N.J. to get processed. Unfortunately, I didn't read all the bad reviews and horror stories until after my deer were in his freezer and I was back home in Pennsylvania. I paid $360 dollars for these deer to to processed, had direct email communication with the owner Kitt Schulman about the order. Then nothing. My NJ friend was going to pick up the order for me and he got no text or phone call either. I called him a week or two later, no response. I figured that he was backlogged with processing from the season and put it out of my mind. After about 7 weeks I start to get nervous and tried to make contact again. No dice. I have been calling, emailing, Facebook Messaging him at his Dog Food Company, etc... No response. Today I called the Howell Police department and they happened to have a cell phone number for the guy. They called him and he was apparently "argumentative" and "non-cooperative" with them on the phone. They suggested that I file a police report with my hometown cops and/or take other legal action. While he was on the phone he told the cops he "knew who I was" and my "deer were at the Food Bank". I reached out to Hunter's Helping the Hungry via Facebook but haven't heard back from them. I assume that was the organization he was talking about because he used to link it on his website. His website is now shut down. His business is listed as permanently closed. He is not returning any communication I send to him. I really don't want this to get ugly, but that venison represents over a lot of damn money considering the out of state licenses I bought, modifications to my firearms, the $360 processing fees and time I took off of work. Can anyone offer any advice? Has anyone been in this kind of scenario with this guy before? I'm really not sure what to do next and am really really frustrated. Is the "Food Bank" nonsense worth pursuing? Thanks in advance.

  15. Was Able to fill my winter bow tag with this gorgeous 9pt.. After monitoring pics and studying him for 2 weeks. Chose not to sit the morning, he came in while I was in bed. With the cold front coming in, I slipped in while there were smaller bucks within 100yds of my stand. After freezing my butt off, right before dark this guy came cruising in. Arrow stopped hard at 13 yards, only 12in of penetration. I watched him bed down from the stand, watched him till dark, got down and he limped into the thick brush. Backed out, came in the next morning and found him piled up 70 yards from where I last seen him. I know some dont like how I make my hunting videos, but for my fellow new jersey hunters heres the link to the hunt if any one is interested ! Thanks guys, Happy hunting, stay safe!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5byl-q0EtM&t=465s

  19. Hey all, It's almost that time of year! I am the head guide for the Lodge at River Valley, a members only fly fishing club situated along 2 miles of the Musconetcong River in Asbury, New Jersey. Last year we launched a limited hunting membership for 6 members and we have 3 spaces still available for this year. We are looking for a 3 bow only members to join for deer season, keeping our maximum at 6. Members will have access to overnight accommodation (at a rate of $65/man), as well as free range on over 240 acres of farm and woodlands that are prime deer habitat. Full kitchen is available for use. The herd at River Valley is about 45-60, with 6-8 unique bucks. The entire property is managed for regenerative farming and wildlife, which has a halo effect of positive stewardship to the deer population. We are located in Zone 7, known for it's large population of trophy bucks. The Lodge is home to 2009's trophy buck of the year. Taken by shotgun, it is the 4th largest buck ever taken in New Jersey (NJ Deer Hunting Records). Pictures attached. The genetics of this large buck are still very much influencing the current herd. Membership starts at $1700 per person for the season, up to 6 members. Also included with membership are dining privileges at Hawk Pointe, a course just down the road from the lodge. Please send me a message or reply to this thread if you are interested or would like some more information. Check out the Lodge website for pictures of the property. Cheers Alex Ford
  20. I get to watch the deer I’m hunting while sitting in my house. I just watched some of my girls walk by. Who else gets to do this. Maybe other guys get to do this from their office or a truck on the edge of a field.
  21. This is my first year deer hunting and I put out some sugar beets and corn in the woods I grew up next to in town. Growing up I never had interest in hunting but I know there was always hunting activity there and a deer population but I now I want to get into hunting. We always played paintball and rode dirtbikes all throughout the woods. The woods has since changed and all of us grew up. There's no more signs of any quads or dirtbikes whatsoever. I didn't even see boot tracks when I went out there to scout but saw a bunch of deer tracks. Here's some cam pics I have gotten. There are plenty more but the issue is they are all in dark hours. None of them are in daylight. I have since moved the camera and bait pile and will post more pics once I go back and check it (another day or two). I've been out there hunting a few times and haven't seen anything during huntable hours. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance!
  22. Even though it was a warm afternoon , decided to give it a go. My brother scored on this 8pt tonight. Grim reaper broad heads did the job. Deer dropped within 25 yards. Bring on permit season. This warm weather has been crazy lately.
