I'd like to think that Chris Jr. and I did a great job mentoring one of his good buddies Stephen who showed an interest in hunting. He shot a doe on opening day and then shot this beautiful 4 or 5 year old buck tonight w/ his compound bow that weighed about 180 pounds!
Not a bad first week of your hunting career…

A HUGE thank you goes out to my buddy Lee from NJW&W who provided the young man with a free compound bow to get him started!

JerseyJaysTaxidermy reacted to Bucksnbows in Stream and bank restoration after Hurricane Ida
As anticipated, we are beginning to take a lot of calls regarding recent flood damage to local north Jersey rivers and streams. Ida was the storm/flood of record for many watersheds, exceeding both hurricanes Irene and Floyd which were the two most common floods of record.

We will be out looking at damaged sites this week well into fall, so if you or someone you know had damage to banks or in stream habitat, give us a call and we can walk you through the process of restoration. We are: Trout Scapes River Restoration LLC out of Bozeman, MT with a sales office led by yours truly in Flanders, NJ (Morris county).  We are a design and build firm working nationwide doing river restoration projects from small to large.

Which would you prefer on your property?
    A.  Native plants that provided little to no value to your deer herd.
    B.  Non-native plants that provide an abundance of high quality food for your deer.

I was walking around out back and we have a large patch of Snakeroot, which is a native plant, but the wildlife won't eat it.  In another spot we have a thicket of Multiflora and Japanese honeysuckle.  Deer, rabbits, and a host of other wildlife thrive in this "Invasive Thicket".  If my interest is in providing the best habitat for the local wildlife,  should it matter if a plant is native or not native?
    P.S.  After a DNA test I found out that I'm "Non-native".
P.P.S.  For the guys with food plots, are your plants native?

It is required that they be bleached, the part that is a recommendation is 30% for 15 min.  So I guess you could do 1% for 10 seconds and say it was bleached.

JerseyJaysTaxidermy got a reaction from Pathman in CWD Laws- how to bring a deer into NJ for taxidermy
New laws are preventing hunters from bringing their deer (deer, Elk , moose, etc) into the state without first removing the parts of the deer that spread CWD (brain, spine, eyes, etc)
That causes an issue for hunters wanting their trophies mounted by NJ taxidermists.

    Your options:
-Leave your deer in another state to be mounted

-maybe a butcher will offer this service (and hope they know how to do it properly)

-have an out of state taxidermist just cape the animal and clean the brain cavity for you to bring back to NJ and have your taxidermist mount (don't feel funny asking- we do it all the time for non residents.)

    - skin the animal yourself, and this is a detailed video I made today showing you how:
