  1. With my partner at work retiring on July 1st I thought it through. I can retire on November 1st but I was planning on staying and retiring on January 1st, and my application reflected that. But when comparing a November 1st vs January 1st retirement it comes out to pennies on the dollar per year.....so with that I cancelled my January retirement a few days ago, and I just re-applied this morning for a November 1st retirement....Now I'll be off for prime time hunting season, no worries trying to find another officer to work for me for the numerous holidays ...... I have 19 sick days to burn 3 personal days, and will cash out my earned vacation and comp time.......My wife asked me where I want to go to eat for my retirement....KEEN'S STEAKHOUSE comes to mind !!!

    Clamming with the boy

Woke up to a pretty stiff wind today, so decided to go clamming , when we got out there I see a boat flying an American flag and the captain warring a straw hat, I said to my boy that has to be zipper, of course he looked at me like I had 6 heads, so I pulled a u turn and went for a look and sure as shit it was him pulling out of the clamming ground, he was nice enough to point us to a good spot , ended up getting our 300 clams and headed for the barn

  4. Matt, the best way to not have yellow jackets living in your front steps is to have a masonry set of steps not wood.. just saying

  5. Noticed an increase from random Yellowjacket traffic at my front steps to regular and going into a step crack. Tried spraying a few times into the step crack with no luck so was time to cut/disassemble. Little bigger than I was thinking...shorts and bare feet were probably not optimal. But you lose little bastards!

  11. Oh,, and you absolutely gotta smoke a prime rib. One I did last week took two hours to reach an internal temp of 130 with the grill set on 275, then let rest for 30 minutes.

  19. My last day was Memorial Day. On the books until October 1st using accumulated time. Was in Maine last week fishing, going to Louden NH for NASCAR July 12, Delaware at end of July, Jersey shore in August, get ready for deer season in September, Daytona 500 in February. All good here. Closed that chapter of my life quickly, now moving on

    Oaks and Acorns

Ya know my buddy sent me a podcast to listen to, I can’t stand those things but it was a squirrel biologist. Said the squirrels migrate in years like last. I didn’t know that. That could be your squirrel difference. Another interesting thing he said, I’ve never seen nor noticed this but he said squirrels bring dead baby rabbits and mushrooms into the trees to dry. Than eat them. I’ve seen mushrooms stacked in trees but never baby rabbits. Didn’t know squirrels consumed any meat at all. John Ozoga, I think Wisconsin, Michigan, something head of DNR, documented a deer herd eating fish so anything is possible. Sorry I deviated some here.

Not just the deer; squirrels, chipmunks, and mice are also noticeably absent this year. The flying squirrels that have lived in our shed for years are also gone.
