  1. My son got his first bird yesterday. Big thanks to the hunter who helped with his dog.

  2. This trip started 3 years ago when a friend who lives in Hawley pa told me he was slowing down on trapping and said I could come up and use his traps whenever I wanted to. That's when I started researching and planning, last year me and Mike went up mainly scouting but I set a couple traps but didn't catch anything in the short time we were there but learned the lay of the land. This year we went up with more knowledge and really set a line. Went up to my friends house and picked up equipment and set and checked traps from sun up till dark for 4 days. We put many many miles on our feet and saw

  4. Went this morning to check my camera 1458 pictures, plenty of does/fawns, two small bucks each has one side shed off, a few with both sides shed off, and I got one buck on camera that I saw in early November chasing a doe he isn't my #1 but he should be a good one next fall, of course one bear

  7. This little guy was under the tree Christmas morning and my girls were thrilled: We know his mom is a full lab (the rescue still has her) but I'm thinking his dad was a lab mix of some kind because the only clue that he is not a full lab is his tail-its upturned with a curl. We're going to DNA test him to see what he is, but in the meantime our 10 year old chocolate is teaching him how to retrieve and be a lab. That is when mom isn't spoiling him:

  8. Its one of my favorite Hank Jr. songs of all time, but this post is about a family tradition of a different kind: Today I brought home two of my grandfather's mounts to be hung in my office. My grandmother ("Nanny") passed away over the summer and my parents are slowly cleaning out her house. My dad, my brother and I split up the mounts in order to keep them in the family. I wish I knew the story behind these but I don't. I am 38 years old and these mounts went on the wall well before I was born. I can only guess that at that time (40+ years ago) they may have been taken anywhe

  11. I’ve hunted almost every Tuesday Thursday and Saturday stocking days this year I do both quail and pheasant and alternate between the two to start off. I also alternate between 4 different pheasant stocked wma’s, my experiences have been consistent. The bigger wmas the birds are scattered around more maybe a few in this field non in this one etc. The smaller wmas release less birds but they generally put out in the same fields or areas not always fields, but it’s very crowded and lots of road walkers with house dogs that are slower then the human in front of them. Birds get bumped and fly fur

  13. Hoping that there might be a chance to get out and hunt the 2020 Winter seasons. It was disappointing to hear my doctor tell me I wouldn't be able to go full tilt until at least March. It sucks, but at least I should be able to get to fishing in the spring. I'll do my best to get there and hope that I will be good to go come fall and the bow season. To be sure it is hard to come in here and see the great deer a lot of you have taken and read the stories behind them all. With some prayers and a bit of luck I'll be able to put up my own a ways down the road.

  15. I belonged to a club and the problem for me was you hunted the same property each time you went out and the guys who stocked basically planted the birds in the same spots so you were going to where you knew there would be a bird or two and it became the same old, same old every time I went out. Different WMA's for pheasant and quail and hunting it in one direction this time and a different the next, for me at least is much more enjoyable. But I'm there basically to run and watch my dog work and a bird or two is icing on the cake. And for $40..... break that down by the hours afield and i

  16. IIRC, they said you always get the physical green copy with the all-around. It isn't an option to NOT get it. You can print it out and the print out is good for 15-days. At least, that's what I remember from the emails and announcements.

  18. Maybe I missed something Swamp Yankee but I thought you asked if others are seeing bucks. I am and I’m relatively close to you. Keep the bait out and wait for snow. They will come. Also maybe move a camera to different part of you property. You may be surprised what you find moving a camera as little as 75 yards. Ok, everyone else can carry on with the tangent. 20. Thanks for the compliment, but Ryan doesnt need any instructing...hes an accomplished trapper that has a real passion for making furry little woodland critters step on a two inch diameter trap pan. Oh wait..... I did show him how to make a spring hole set but nothing stepped on my moss covered rock.

  22. Went to Micro center in Paterson yesterday for a geeky treat and made the most of the Christmas Gluttony Amnesty by heading over to the Lodi Pizza shop. It was Old School - $2 a slice, I tried the plain and the Sicilian. The crust on the plain was spectacularly crisp on the bottom but I found that the sauce was a bit watery for my taste. The Sicilian was very good although I wish that the crust had been crispier. I then got a slice with pepperoni which was excellent - and the crust was again spectacular. I will definitely be back there as soon as I find an excuse.

  27. Well that's a wrap for 2019 bird season for me and stella. Might walk the woods here and there in January, But am very happy with this pup so far. I haven't really done anything with her other then train her to come when called and planted some birds for gun intro. Other then that I've been letting her be a pup. Surprisingly it was a very peaceful season with her. I barely talk to her in the field, I guess that's a forum of training. I decided with this dog to let her figure things out on her own. Today She pointed 8 pheasant then we headed down to hunt quail solo. I wont tell you how m

  28. The birds for the youth hunt this past November were small. Smallest I ever saw. Assume they were first year birds. We had concerns for the regular season. With that said my son and I have hunted on stocking days and the birds have been bigger and heavier. No complaints here. Son got this one last week. Longest tail I've seen. If we already didn't have a few birds on the wall this one would be at the taxidermy man.

  29. Unlimited antlerless does nothing when you have 6 buck tags in your pocket. I know several guys who have shot several bucks already this season and not a single doe

  35. Man, this is to early for this annual thread to kick off. Haha. Bottom line, this happens every year and this year is no different. We are at the end of our 4th month into a non stop season. Deer are in heavy cover. The rut is over,The woods are open, cover is lost. Same ol song and dance. I think I saw some of the most impressive bucks I have seen period taken this past bow season posted here . Bucks are surviving and that’s exactly what they are doing right now. If you aren’t seeing anything, keep moving and trying new locations and get yourself a new view and learn something. Being a slave

  38. Yes. They should have been cut flush to begin with. I would recommend the concave push caps instead of the screw caps. That way you can drive over them with the lawn mower and not break them. They are meant to see if the field has a high water level or if it is dry

  39. Not trying chop gun seasons. Not trying to reduce deer limits. For the record I don't hunt early season. Yes bow hunters and muzzy hunters do drives/pushes. I'm not against it. From a deer management perspective I just don't think unlimited does harvest is a good thing. I don't think a hunter shooting 6 bucks per season is a good thing for deer management. I think doing 20-30 man deer drives shooting at every deer regardless of size, antler, etc is a bad thing. Reason why I say January and February is because most deer are herded up by then. With archery equipment it's a ch

  40. There is a reason , . there is too much constant pressure on deer for too many straight months . when there were breaks in the seasons the QUALITY of the hunts into late season were still great . now the deer adapt to living in many unhuntable spots for the last four months of the season . last few years many bucks are shedding sooner , if seasons ended like they used to many of those deer would not be shot by guys thinking they were does . go to any butcher after mid January you will see a lot of the antlerless deer laying there are shed bucks . . as

  42. So shoot more does . And decrease buck tags Lowers the numbers because every doe shot doesn't multiply by 3 next spring . Most families eat 3 or 4 deer a year . No rea son for them to shoot any does under current regs. PA opened the doe harvest while age structuring the buck harvest. Was a win for hunters there . Ohio 1 buck 5 does . Plenty of does get taken and bucks shot are nice . So def both management and quality can both be had
