Well haven’t been up on the mountain because of the heat, deer weren’t moving and I wasn’t moving. My daughter and I did a 8 mile hike on the AT before she left for her freshman year at the University of Michigan ( go blue ! ), started from the house in Stillwater and ended at Millbrook rd where my buddy picked us up. That was 8 miles, we had planned to finish at the Mohican lodge ( don’t know what it is cause we never made it ) which would have been 12 miles but 3 weeks ago parts of the AT were flooded out and we got our feet soaked, once the feet got wet you start getting blisters . Nothing like the smell of stew when you come home from work. Makes it feel closer to winter. Last night i got everything ready for the crockpot. Litely floured the venison and seared them in a drying pan. Cut up celery, potatoes, carrots and onions. Put everything in the Crockpot and put in the refrigerator for the night. The wife took ir out and turned it on before she went to work. Slow cooking all day it comes out great. Awesome smell when i walked in the door. This is from my doe on opening night.

He sent me a text with a description so I painted up a quick picture of it.

Who would have thought, kids tore em up, should have spent another hour in oven but still a not bad dinner. Baked in the oven with dry rub and cola. Then onto grill and cooked with some doctored up sauce. Of cola, brown sugar, hot peppers and onions.

After the rain stopped the woods came alive. A big doe with no fawns made the mistake of coming into feed at 12 yards. My new Obession Fixation sent the wasp tipped Black Eagle completely through her. She only went 80 yards. Now I can hunt one of the bucks I am after.

Well to fill up the time while we are waiting for the pics I will mention that I passed up a nice 18" 7 point tonight. Probably 3.5. Have enough that size. lol Was fun though.

My sons and I watched this very well done documentary by Gary Griffen last night on Amazon Prime called The Secret Life of Whitetails. Incredible video footage and knowledgeable narration. We actually watched it twice....because my older boy missed watching it the first time!! I gotta wonder though....what state this was filmed in?? I'm guessing upstate NY.....maybe near Charlie Alsheimers farm?? Something interesting that was documented was a big buck rubbing velvet off and licking the tree, and it was theorized that the buck was consuming the discarded velvet for nutritional reasons!

I remember actually having to hunt for a deer. You know, tracks,trails rub lines scrapes etc. Nj hunting, if you call it that has changed. We all know the guys who could never kill a deer if it wasnt for the corn pile.

Just use them to your advantage. Hunt the trails the deer take to their bait.

Well a member on here went with the same outfitter I hunt with and tagged his bull yesterday with his bow. He may come on here and share his story. The rut is now getting fired up. 1st post, almost a year after registering. Quite odd. And unclear as to what or who that's even directed at.

Had a guy put up a stand and dump bait next to my natural blind last year, so I moved 200yds back down the ridge where they were coming from, and feeding on acorns the year before. Saw next to nothing. They were all coming straight up the ridge to his bait or from the other direction. To stick the knife in deeper, he had followed my tracks in the snow to my blind. That's public land for ya. Have to stay mobile and go in deeper than they care to carry bait. It's not illega
