Bowhunter2004 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Ill be in Illinois back and forth for the next month, plus a few days in April for Turkey season, Does anyone know if as a non resident landowner in Illinois I am allowed to legally carry a pistol while shed hunting on my own property? Not concealed, out and open for the world to see on my side in a holster. I know for a fact you are not allowed during bow season, and you can hunt with a centerfire pistol during deer gun season. You can also use rimfire or centerfire pistol for coyote. I do not possess a carrying permit in my home state of NJ. Do I need a carrying permit to be legal? I cannot find any specific law. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
BHC Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Check each state you drive thru. Years ago on my way to Illinois I got pulled over by Ohio's state police informed the officer that I'm a LEO in NJ showed my ID also informed him I have my Glock on myself he didn't care even with federal hr 218. His supervisor didn't care either but they called my department & NJ State Police to verify my info, in the end they had no choice but to let me go. Also double check with the Illinois State Police, laws do change and even as a landowner your still a non resident things can be different for residents versus non residents in this case
Rutting Buck Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I don't think it's a problem. It your property and it is the off season "Your short on ears and long on mouth"
Chris Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Call IL state police. This is by no means a legal forum. I would call them and get the officer's name and number who gave you the info Times like these call for a Big Lebowski
