Putting Together A Bear Recovery List . . .

Recommended Posts

I've kind of waited til almost the last minute to try to put together a Bear Recovery List due to every past year's problems that have occurred in my efforts to harvest a NJ Bear.  I am hoping that his year will be The Year for me.  If anyone would be willing to be on a Call List to assist me in recovery should I be fortunate enough to harvest this big guy, please send me a pm with your phone number.  All I will say on a public forum this year is that I will be in zone 4.  I do not think the spot will accommodate a quad,so it will have to be man/woman pull power on a large sled with ropes and many hands.  My guess is 400-450 lbs. Thank you in advance :)

I will be glad to assist any way in any way I can. Unfortunately, I am working Monday and Tuesday.

If you connect on Wednesday give me a shout......... Good luck with that big guy!

You have my number, Robin. Just send me a text first in case I'm on stand with my daughter.

I will be using a big quad to pull it out of the woods to our logging road and then a 4 x 4 backhoe with a chain to lift it into the bed of a Dodge pick up to take to the check station if we shoot a big one

It's pretty thick in where I am hunting, and lots and lots of the sticker brush in a swamp surrounding the central area.  I bought a larger sled and will have a tarp and lots of rope.

In looking at my schedule for next week, the only time I can't help anyone in the greater NW NJ area is Thursday morning when I'll be at the Pequest hatchery doling out rainbow trout eggs for our Trout In the Classroom (TIC) program.  But I'll be done by 9 am or so.  I plan to hunt with my daughter Monday morning and again all day Wednesday if she doesn't score Monday.  I'll likely be out with Mike and one other buddy on some of the other days including Friday and Saturday, so even if I'm not in the woods, I can leave my office in short notice to help anyone in need.

The bear I am hoping to get a shot at has been very regular and coming in 3-5 times a day during shooting light for the last month, but I changed things and started bringing him his treats daily for the last week before our season opener.  As a result, he has shown up around 4pm and stayed until 5-7am each morning for the last 3 mornings. So . . . MAYBE . . . HOPEING . . . FINGERS CROSSED . . . that I will get a shot at him between 4-5 pm on Monday, except on Monday I will be adding my scent at ground level even though I will be using Scent Crusher on everything and burning donut scent sticks.
