So like the title says, I'm completely new to hunting and was wondering about hunting in Wharton SF for the 6 day firearm season. Has anyone had any luck there and does anyone have any pointers. I'm planning on using a blind and really brushing it in. I'm former military so I don't think concealment will be an issue. I'm planning on using a camo burlap fabric and really brushing it in for a "natural" built in blind. Any help would be great appreciated!

Welcome DC.

Location is more important than how you brush in your blind.  If you sit still you don't need a blind at all.  I shot the buck in my avatar while sitting on the ground with my back against a tree.

Welcome. The pines are hard hunting as the deer are super spooky. Plenty of big bucks. If you could i would get a climber and climb as high as you feel comfortable . As for 6 day the wharton tract gets hit hard so get close to a swamp and be ready cause deer will be heading for it.

During 6 day you want to hunt near escape cover, not food sources.  The orange army will be pushing the deer around and they won't be visiting their regular food sources during daylight.

Read your regs carefully...especially when on a WMA or Public land...Game Wardens will gladly remind you the hard way and then you are left explaining it to the judge.

Also, on a WMA, you cannot cut any vegetation, so "really brushing it in" will have to be done with dead branches or leaf cover. I also use burlap and it works well and if someone steals it you are only out a few bucks and sweat...carry everything in and everything out 'cause there are grinch's out there looking for opportunity.

If you can hunt weekdays, do it, as their will be a lot less pressure.

Best of luck and shoot straight

On opening day, lots of deer are killed between 10:00 and 1:00 by guys that stay in their stands.  Most guys will get bored and start walking around, bumping deer.  The guy that stays put has a good chance of shooting a deer that has been kicked up by others.

As previously mentioned make sure you Mark your ground blind with plenty of orange visible from all sides. Deer drivers sometimes get excited and spray the woods with buckshot. Welcome to the Brotherhood of hunting, respect and enjoy the experience and you will be satisfied with the activity.
