So with little over a week before our first bear bow season. Whats every one estimate on the number and heaviest bear shot during the 6 day early season.

I think we will harvest a record amount amount in this season and also a very good chance of the record weight cause of the 150 foot rule with the bow. Lot of giants living close to houses (Dumpster bears).

What kind of numbers do you guys think?

30% of tagged bears must be taken to close the season.  Assuming not all tagged bears are still alive and well (and still in NJ), then at least 1/3 of the total population must be taken to close the season.  If the population is over 3,000 bears then 1,000+ bears will be taken.

We have at least 3 bears this year over 400 lbs and one of them should go 500. But nothing ridiculous in size. I made the mistake of not changing the intervals between pictures on my camera and wound up with one photo every 10 seconds. Got 2,183 photos in 5 days!

Haha i had over a 1000 in 3 days. Don't matter with a 8 gig card. Just keep looking at them. I switched my one camera to 10 second videos and its neat to watch.

I'm not baiting bear in any way.....but I do have three baited deer spots and I've got 17 different bear on camera for those spots and NONE are tagged.....I had to change a camera out yesterday because some SOB walking his dog spotted the cam and smashed it with a rock last January....I tried caulking the housing but with all the rain this last week, it leaked again and stopped working......anyway, I strolled out to the tree to change the cam and treed a sow with 3 cubs who were on the bait.....At this same stand last week I walked out to hunt the afternoon, and had two yearling bears (about 150#'s each) at the Big&J blocks, and they wouldn't leave....I had to shoo them away just to get into the tree and they kept coming back for an hour each time I yelled to chase them away.....I swear I could've nocked an arrow and walked up to one of the two and let the air out of his lungs at 5 yards with zero effort. Shouldn't be to hard to fill the bear quota in a week of bow hunting with a forest full of bears that have no fear of people......
