Disguising Trail Cameras.

Recommended Posts

As some of you know, my father passed away unexpectedly a little over two weeks ago. My mom lives down a driveway that's a 1/4 of a mile long. We have some trail cameras down near the house. They have a fence with a gate going across the driveway. My mom has a lock on the gate. I was thinking about putting some trail cameras in birdhouses and put them near the gate entrance and along the driveway. Has anyone here have done that or put trail cameras in things to disguise them? I'll be down there next week to figure out something. Any tips? Thanks.

Are you looking to collect evidence after the fact or create a deterrent?  If you want to do the latter, they have camera kits that aren't real cameras, but have a red light near the lens to create the impression that it's a real camera recording movement.  You can pick those up for $30, and it keeps a good percentage of the riff raff away.

That's a good question. I guess that I want to record who comes to the gate. I just want to record activity. That's all.

IMHO, I would get one of the ones that sends photos via cell and put it in a metal box with a Master cable lock around it.  Maybe hook a solar panel to it.  No need to hide it, let people see it so they know they're being watched, and you can get the images in near real time.

I'm one of those people who likes to let people know there is security and when they see it, they've already been seen.

Ok. I was talking to my brother about that. We may go that route as well. Thanks.

My brother ordered security signs and I'll put them out next week. I think that it's best to have them out to warn people. Maybe to keep honest people honest.

We live somewhat rural and have a long driveway and we had an attempted break in at our home a few years ago and I learned a few things.

1. If not at home we leave a car in the driveway positioned as if it had just pulled in, not parked directly in front or left in the garage.

2. Motion detector spotlights all around.

3. Lights on a timer in various rooms that go on and off at different times, when we are out.

4. TV on and visible thru the window.

5. A note taped on the front door which reads.  "Mike, I went next door. Be right back, so let yourself in. Riley is not in her crate. Dad".

I thought, growing old would take longer !

I spent most of my money on shotguns and fly rods.  The rest I just wasted.

In addition to the cameras, Home depot sells driveway monitors that beep inside the house when someone breaks the beam across the driveway.   Of course for personal protection the only thing for that is a gun.  A dog is a poor second choice, but may deter some people.

Now here is a person that know what to do.

Just get a big dog that barks at intruders.. No need to get all complicated about home security.. Its very simple really.. :cupcoffee:

She has a big black dog but, she'll lick you to death.
