I just finished making a spreadsheet which shows bear activity times, MIA times, and walk-throughs. Looks like I will be doing all day sets.

I gotta be honest - as it approaches, I thought I would be getting excited for bear with the bow... I never did gun for bear, but said if they allow archery I would do it.

For some reason - just not feeling it. I have zero motivation to go bait for them, and zero desire to deal with one after the kill.  I am not sure why - but not gonna force it. I still may get a tag and if one walks by unsolicited - game time decision.

Nothing spooks deer more than my stank…

Cool. I'm not that obsessed :hmmmer: , well maybe if you call driving 225 miles round trip just to bait after work once a week before and now going to be twice a week then maybe I am. I plan on sitting al day any way since I will be up there. Good luck

I like the nerd approach to the bears!

You could turn this into an Access database to track individual bears and the frequency they are seen on camera.

What kind of statistics are you going to run against this?  I would definitely graph it based on time to see graphically when they arrive.  Another statistical model could be to build a histogram to show frequency, might actually look better than a simple graph.

Is there any other data you're going to add, such as moon phase and temperature (since you've gone all nerd already)?  Or possibly precipitation (not that we've really had any)?

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

I got one last year and just cant get motivated this year. I may or may not go. got permitt and I know I only need a baiting to get them there, we will see.

Nice!  Who doesn't love a good spreadsheet! :)

I've done the same to try and identify patterns of deer in the past, it's pretty interesting to see their cycles (if there's one to be identified).

My motivation is a combination of wanting to see my daughter get an opportunity, getting Troutandbucks another one since he has a monster hitting what was supposed to be a deer mineral station and not our bait barrel we've been keeping full most weeks, and a chance to shoot one with my compound.  To be honest, I haven't really cared to shoot a 2nd one during 6 Day even though I always had the permit, but only because the taxidermy is so damned expensive.  I came to the decision last night that if I get a decent one - and I'm passing small ones this fall - then I will do the front shoulder mount.  Can't afford nor do I need another rug, and a full body mount would equal not only divorce, but bankruptcy.  :)

haven't been obsessed but I'll bet ms grit your hunt will get sabotaged at the last minute...jersey blows the idiot mindset takes over even in a past time like hunting.i wish you the best luck you deserve it more then anyone I know but that cloud hangs over you girl when it comes to bear

Robin - not sure where you're hunting this fall, but you have my cell # if you score and need help.  I'll be out several times, but can't afford to take off all week due to the new business start-up.  But I can likely drop whatever I am doing that week and help.

This reminds me to call my buddy and make sure I have the keys to his new Kubota backhoe if we need to haul out a big one....

I was going to add moon phase, just haven't gotten to it yet.  I tried to graph it, but that didn't work as I couldn't figure it out on Excel.  Also, I was really concerned with if his MIA times correlated with garbage pick up in the neighborhood which is Mondays.

Well smoking gun, I'm in a different town and zone this year.  Been keeping things pretty low key, but boy am I gonna have some cool pictures to share AFTER the season.

Thank you Brian.  I appreciate the offer. All I am willing to say publicly this year (due to past occurrences) is that I am hunting in zone 4 and I do have a nice size bear (350?) showing up on a regular basis.
