Another Rough Day at the Office

Spent the day playing in the Wallkill river, catching "bugs" with my students.  Teaching them how to use macroinvertebrates to determine water quality.  It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.

I was playing in Capoolong Creek myself with Division staff, watching a beautiful 18" wild brown eating off the surface and quickly shooting back down under a large boulder in what used to pass for a deep pool in that stream.

Top one is called the cockroach stonefly and is in the Petoperlidae genus.  The others are in the Plenarian genus and are not considered trout food (so who cares?)

What about the craft beer industry?

My second job is teaching, which really doesn't pay.

Doesn't pay either.  I have a rock-solid business plan to start a brewery in NJ, but it takes years to become profitable.

Placing the onion sack / mesh bags in the river and catching invertebrates to show the kids was always a crowd pleaser....the kids were always amazed at the life in the water you never see.....
