For me was only a few years back when shotgun and bow season where on the same days my pops decided he wanted to hunt i said sure thing. We headed out to assunpink and he thought i brought my gun like him but when i pulled out my recurve he laughed and said i wouldnt kill a thing. So i go my way him his and i sit in a blow down. A short 8 min wait a big ole flat head came in with another and i drew and shot sending the poc shaft tipped w a bear greenie thru her. She fell in 30 yards meanwhile the other deer was running beside her and apparently got covered in blood so when it ran by my dad he thought i wounded one and shot it. He called within minutes saying he finished my deer off i laughed and told him i was already field dressing mine the look and smile on his face that day was priceless

Theres more fun hunting with the handicap of a bow than the surness of a gun!The history of the bow and arrow is the history of mankind!

My old man and I two years ago was probably my most memorable. He doesn't really get out much with me anymore with his work schedule and me being able to drive when he's not around. Usually my pops is  the bad the luck charm in the bunch so it was nice to see a change of pace.

My perspective has changed quite a bit on this topic. When I was about 20 years old i would have said my first buck. 10 years later it is all the hunts I spent with my Dad. Whether it be sitting on a milk crate at the base of his tree. Or trailing a deer he shot. My Dad no longer hunts but is always checking in and he is the first to get the days report after I am done for the day.

For me without a doubt, hands down has to be my son's 1st gun deer taken just last season.....The turn of events was absolutely surreal and hard to believe...

The thread can be found in the link below....."Son's 1st Muzzleloader Deer"  I told him that this one will be hard to top all the way around lol!

Hell of a good post.

Now that dad's gone, all those hunting memories are rolled up into one "feeling" of past enjoyment and pride.

The greatest memory hunting without dad was with my daughter last year after pops had passed a couple weeks earlier and she got her first buck.  She had to get over an earlier miss and I had to find a deer without a blood trail.

Youth pheasant last year when I had both kids out and my oldest got her first bird on the wing in one of those outdoor life cover photo moments with three cockbirds busting out of a bush cackling with the sunrise in the background and it was cold and crisp.  We took 20 minutes taking it all in.

This was my most memorable hunt! So our family decided to go on a 4 day rifle hunt in Alabama for the first time last year. It was a group of nine guys. My cousins, my Dad, My Uncle, and my Grandfather. Right at 6:30 am on the second morning this 102' 8 pointer came out at 50 yards. I put the gun up and Boom dropped him in his tracks! I walked out to him almost instantly. As soon as I got to him I felt my phone vibrate. It was the guide, his message read "don't get out of your stand"..... whoops lol... So I hurried up and got back in my stand... After sitting there texting my family and telling them I just shot a buck I happened to catch movement in the corner of my eye. Here comes two doe's walking across at about 200 yards. I put the gun up and boom.... The doe's are just looking around haha. I shot again boom! The doe ran 15 yards and crashed! What a great hunt. It was awesome sitting around the fire every night and talking about our hunts. Also, I ended up shooting a 3rd deer (a doe) on the last night of the hunt. Another reason this was such a great hunt was because out of the nine of us we got six deer and I killed half of them

A hunt my son and I were on up at the gap.....

Super cold December morning....I set him up in a spot  were he made his own ground blind the week prior.

I watched the deer approach him from maybe one hundred yards away and thought for a second he may have nodded off, but happily saw the flash of the muzzle from the first light of the morning.

One shot kill....Never forget how excited he was that day. First gut job too!  Memories like this never are forgotten.   Tons of hunts that my Dad and i had over the years from birds to deer and week stay overs at of deer camp.

Only wish I recorded more pics, but there permanently embedded in my brain.

Mine was last season with the buck in my avatar. It was October 30 my first day off for my rut vacation and it was going to be my first sit of the season in my favorite tree that produced well for me over the years. It was a bit on the warmer side that morning but still had high hopes going in. I get to my tree, climb up and realize that the wind shifted on the walk in and isn't blowing the forecasted direction! So quickly I make the call to climb down so I don't booger it up for the rest of my hunts coming up. Pretty disappointed I started walking back thinking what to do, I was bummed and thinking about just going home but I decided to take a different approach. I thought, well there's a spot not too far away (walking distance) I've scouted year after year that looked really promising but never committed to actually hunting it.

I only had my climber seat with me because I use it in my lock ons for comfort and theft deterrent, so I walk over and setup in a spot on the ground. As the sun came up I see that I just can't see or shoot very far, I hear deer close but can't see anything, now I'm really bummed. What to do now?? I decide to walk back to the truck to grab the rest of my stand and climb a tree ten yards from where I was sitting.. It's now around 8 and though I'm later than I've ever been I knew it could happen anytime and was already prepared for a all day sit. Around 9 a small 8 point comes in and walks a trail right by me, "ok looking good" I said to myself! That was short lived and sat till around 1 with no more sightings, it was getting pretty warm so I decided to grab lunch and come back. I was gone for about a hour, I slowly a quietly like a mouse sneak in and as I'm climbing the tree I hear something loud in a bush 5 yards away! I'm only about ten feet up but I pull up my bow and waiting to see what it is.... Few minutes go by and I finally see what was making all the racket, a huge snapping turtle headed to the nearby creek! Haha I couldn't believe it, it totally thought it was a deer bedded under the bush!

Sitting in the sun I was hot and hopes weren't high but after a couple more hours I hear that sound every rut hunter loves to hear.... Crash, crash, grunt, grunt, crash! I exploded out of my seat grabbing my bow as I rose, now I can't see anything yet because it's really thick 20 yards out. The crashing and grunting(loudest, deepest grunts I've ever heard)continues for another minute or so then I spot him! He's chasing a smaller 6 point around to my left and my heart starts into overdrive. I couldn't believe my eyes at the size of his rack and body! I hear them crash back through the thick all the way to my right and I spot him in a clearing 60 yards out, mouth wide open huffing and puffing in the sun like no other, it was a awesome sight to just see a beautiful deer like that doing what he was doing. At this point it's hopes and dreams that he comes my way. As I'm watching the local monarch he's watching the smaller buck run off, then I spot more movement, it's the hot doe they been bugging over and she's headed my way!!! That's the point I knew it was on, she was coming on a string and I knew that buck was soon to follow. The doe passed by at ten yards and he turns and charges to me, I draw my bow as he's running in and he stops broadside 12 yards out and looks right at me! I took a breath settled the pin and squeezed it off, double lunging him. He runs about 30 yards does the tail wag, that every bowhunter loves to see after they let one fly and he toppled over!

I couldn't believe what just happened and at that moment I WAS STAN POTTS hahaha(if you seen him shoot something you know how he gets), I could barely stand or breath, it was the greatest feeling after having a poor year the year before and how hard I scout and how hard I hunt, how many bucks I've passed up to get to this culmination with the biggest buck of my 24 years of bowhunting. I climbed down put my hands on him counted his 9 points fell to the ground and just took deep breaths in relief that I've finally harvested a truly mature deer. My brother drove 45 min out of his way to come help me drag the mighty beast out. Funny thing though... If I was to stay in my spot on the ground he would have been even closer with a perfect clear shot where he stopped! It just goes to show that if you don't give up, stay persistent, adjust to bad circumstances that things can and will happen for the good. He measured out to 141(8 inches bigger than my previous best buck from two seasons earlier)dressed 165 and tooth was sent out for aging, results came back, he was 4 1/2 years old. He's currently on my wall next to my previous best buck, I almost broke a tooth eating his ham steak when I bit into a hidden OO buck shot!
