The anticipation of the Outdoor Life "Opening Day" issue is up there and is nostalgic to me!

When it arrived in the mail, you know that gun season (used to be buck only)  was just around the corner.......my 11 year old son now looks forward to it lol!

Good post....

I can remember looking forward to the NJ Hunting Compendiums (now called Digests) coming out each year and filling out the permit lottery applications with my dad, then anxiously waiting for them to arrive in the mail to see if we got ours!  Great feeling to get them and be able to hunt together!

I'm a bit of an early riser (alarm goes off at 4:30am) and as my wife and I eat breakfast, we always have on this one strange channel that plays the old GI Joe and Transformers cartoons from the early 80s.  Just recently they started playing  Doogie Howser Md as well.  Totally brings me back to being a kid.

For me it would be empty classrooms and hallways in my high school on opening day of 6 Day.  At least I was told they were empty.  I wouldn't have known because I was one of the hordes that took the excused absence that day to hunt with friends and family.  West Milford HS.  They no longer offer the day off if you have a hunting license and note from a parent like they did back then.

Remember chicken on wheels by bear fort  bridge I remember fishing under the bridge with my friend perry big dude back then and a rat the size of a small house cat came out the back of that place right after we ate a box of chicken and ran across perry's feet. I almost fell in the water watching him dance he was scared to death of that rat and I think a little sick from the chicken too lol. After that day we never ate there again we went to paul place instead.
