Done hunting till fall bow

I went out for the first time this year yesterday. And you couldn't ask for a better hunt. I couldn't of script it any better except  . Got in my stand around 330. Everything settled down within 15 minutes. Birds were landing on branches around me. I was totally taken in by all the life in the woods. When out of the corner of my eye I catch movement 100 yards off. It's a deer,so I watch it and notice it has a huge rack from 100 yards threw the thick stuff. Then I see another and another  All with nice racks. So I say to myself, I hope they work there way away so I can shot a doe. But noooooo after a hour of watching them they come within 20 yards of me for 30 minutes just grazing around. And to top it off there were 5 bucks. Two bigger than anything I've ever shot. So it kills me to do it but I'm not going back out till bow. I can't blow out this spot it's too small and it's all I have. So come on October!!

Go find a public land piece shoot a doe then go hammer a buck.

The public woods I know don't open till the first. I'm good I'll put out the camera and see what's going on the next two weeks. Hopefully get them dialed in before they split up

I've been out 6 times since opening day and all I see are bucks.i had one doe in front of me but she never gave me a clear shot.I have never seen so many bucks and so little doe's.I think it's time to stop the unlimited doe tags.

That still sounds like a great hunt! Getting to watch a handful of bucks for a hour, and them not knowing you are there... that's just awesome. I would take that - better than getting skunked which is what tends to happen to me.

EAB sucks for this exact reason. Always has. Now we're at a point where doe numbers are low in a lot of areas and you're forced into shooting one if you want to chase after a buck. I don't even hunt early season anymore because of it.

I wish they would do away with EAB and move the season back to the beginning of October.

I wish they give you the option of taking a buck before a doe. Just have to give up a buck tag down the road. Or the following year.  And mazzgolf it was still a great hunt and I'm always ready for pheasant season. It's my favorite season

I used to love to hunt in this state.  If you ran into someone in the woods you could always go find another spot and deer.  Now you can find another spot but no deer.  I started hunting in the mid west and now I am ruined. The state has ruined the deer hunting in this state for me.

Agree with much above, especially the running into someone and finding another spot. Between less deer and baiting, the fewer deer are concentrated by the bait and there's a lot of "dead woods" out there. Wish they'd get rid of EAB and baiting...
