What's the most unique way that you've found or acquired hunting land?

For me it was Indigo Buntings.

I was working for a farmer, fixing fences, clearing trees, etc.   The farmer had had a real bad experience with a gun club and didn't let anyone hunt his land.  One day we're walking along a brushy stream bottom and I say, "Hey look, Indigo Buntings".  I'm looking at the birds and the farmer's looking at me, he says "Kid, how'd you like to hunt here?"  My jaw just about hit the ground.  This is one of the nicest farms I've ever seen and it's loaded with wildlife.

I said, "but you don't like people hunting on your property".  He responds, "I've been watching you kid, you respect my land and I know you'll take care of it".  That was many years ago and I still have permission to hunt there.

Nice!! I have a backyard to hunt in, another member asked if I'd take a few off as they are eating everything. Killed a doe just before the snow storm last January, I've got the place figured out so I should get a few more this year!

Oh, I fixed his boat, then he asked if I would shoot a few as he doesn't have the time.

Hunt with a Vizsla, cause life's to short to hunt with an ugly dog! :D RIP Tilly monster. (Attila) 2004-2017.

By some interesting leg work through maps to educate some park rangers that i was not illegally hunting park land but being harrassed by them for hunting legal state land. Left them really scratching their heads but admitting i was right.

About 15 years ago I found a solid 5 point shed on a homeowner's driveway while working.

I placed (hid) it next to his garage until they returned from vacation.. I returned to introduce myself and show him what I found on his property......

The elderly homeowner says.......(ready for this)........."Oh those things. Just throw it in the garbage like I do with the ones I find in the yard."

The home and property is now up for sale for @ 1,000,000. It was a good run, like said above lots of great memories were made including my son's first ever bowhunt on youth day. He chose to pass up a basket 8 pointer at 10 yards as the shooter buck he was after and wanted was at 32 yards and never came closer lol!

Hey LPJR, don't give up on that spot. See if you could have the seller introduce you to the new buyer, you never know.

I have not moved a ladder stand or camera just for that reason....Ya never know! :hmmmer:

She often jokes around that I come with the property, lol!

I lucked out twice over on a piece of property in Warren County...Was looking through the classifieds one day and saw an add for acreage for sale. 6 acres for $6k....Thought it had to be a misprint but called the number on the listing and found out it was no joke. The former owner died, and his kids inherited the property, they lived out of state and wanted nothing to do with it. I made a $4K cash offer and the property was mine. Then last year, the State acquired the adjoining 170 acres as green acres....eventually, I'll put a cabin on it. right up against the state land border to broaden that safety zone. LOL

He said I could post and patrol it. I asked does patrol mean hunt? He replied, however you decide to do it.

Good thinking.
