I wanna start by saying

HAPPY 4th of JULY……

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a pool guy….

im not against anyone making money but the guy who has opened my pool says it will cost me 2,500$ to replace the egg type filter filled with sand…. Circled in red in the picture, I don’t even know what it’s called along with the new pvc plumbing

seems a bit excessive but what do I know

can anyone suggest someone

Thanks for the responses

its a below ground pool

and yes it started putting sand into the pool

One of the laterals in the filter broke.  Go to local pool store and replace just the tan part.  You will need 3 bags of pool sand.

No reason to change the PVC plumbing.  Or the head on top of the filter.

As far as cartridge filters go, I hate em.

Sand filter are far too much maintenance. HIGHLY recommend cartridge filter. Simple & efficient. Pools are pretty simple. LMK what u decide.

What maintenance?  Cartridge filters need frequent washing.  Sand, change every 3 yrs.

To the OP.  If you keep the same system, no need to change the plumbing.   Switch to a cartridge filter, and plumbing needs to be changed to fit.

Clearly we have a difference of opinion. I have had both types of filters and found cartridge filters to work better and are easier to maintain.

It’s not super hard.   YouTube is your best friend

drain.  Remove sand.  Take it apart. Find the broken laterals   Get from pool store.   Amazon’s is surely cheaper.   Replace. Refill new sand.

i have zero mechanical ability but I won’t pay 2500 for something I can fix for a few 100.
