PA License/Permit to open/carry

Hey Guys,

This may not be the right location and I apologize in advance for that.

Here is my situation.  I want to be able to open Carry in PA.  I recently joined a hunting club/lease in PA. That is why I am asking.

I know that in years prior to Nj Conceal Carry there was licenses and classes for this particualar situation. Are they still going on?

There is a sportsman carry you can apply for. Allows you to open carry while hunting

I would like to do that while hunting and when I camp/ride atvs there.

Id recommend obtaining your PA LTCF license to carry firearms. Open carry seems like it is always a poor choice for many reasons. Makes you a target, easy for people to grab,  cant open carry in PA during a governor declared emergency, not sure if the ongoing opioid emergency is still ongoing or counts, cant  open carry in a vehicle, once you enter a vehicle it is considered concealed.

Sportsman will allow open carry ONLY while hunting. It is not an actual carry permit for any other situation. It does not allow carry to an from hunting , in a vehicle , etc. 

you may be better off just getting your pa concealed permit. It works for both.

It covers more than hunting, I think it is good for most outdoor activities, I have one but I forget exactly what it covers, for sure hunting, trapping and fishing

Go to PAFOA and ask these questions. 

I am a pa resident and have an LTCF. 

The sportsmans license only allows a hunting type side arm while hunting. In other words if bow hunting you can't have a side arm.

Open carry is different than carry for hunting. 

Open carry is legal if not in motor vehicle and as long as no state of emergency is in effect. 

The issue is transport. PA is very similar in transport if you do not have an LTCF.

 

Go to PAFOA and ask away. PA is way different than NJ. Then take a class with an attorney.

I will educate myself more on the New Jersey Carry.  One of the reason I havent already is because I just never had reason to have it or never planned on carrying. My situation has changed now that I am in the Big Woods and that little security feature makes sense to me.

With my little understanding is that the New Jersey Carry is that it is a pain in the ass and I should have been a little more clear in what I was looking for.

I remember before Nj Carry there was lots of guys who got a carry license from a state like Florida and used it in PA.

Do they still have those classes? Are they easier to get done then the Nj Carry?

But at this point it may just make sense to do the NJ route.

To get a pa carry permit you must have a carry permit from your state of residence. 

Do you have a nj FID CARD? It is pretty much the same process

It's basically the same process.   It's online now but they want 4 reference

My father has NJ CCW. He did the Pa forms and such and was told to pick his carry permit up 4 days later. This was a year or so ago.
