This is a repost of one I put up in May of 2021. Still trying to find these. Difference now is my father is pretty sick and I would love to show him one of these while he is still here

I am embarking on a virtually impossible task, but I must try. It is a project I need to attempt. Back in 1979 when I was a little kid my father was hurting for money around Christmas time. He needed money for Christmas presents and  was at the end of his rope so he sold two guns that belonged to my grandfather who had died a couple of years earlier. It killed him to do it, but one of the two times we spoke about it, he was crushed and visibly upset. He was embarrased that he was at that point and crushed that he sold those guns. It bothered him even more as I grew up and had the passion for hunting and the outdoors that his father had. His original plan was to eventually pass those guns to me. My grandfather died when I was 6 years old. We were both in the hospital at the same time and I never had the chance for a real goodbye or learn about hunting from him.

A few years back my father found some old hunting pictures of my grandfather and him with some deer that they had taken. In there was the original receipt of when he sold those guns. I made a copy of it because those pictures and that receipt was the only connection I had with my grandfather and hunting. I put it away somewhere and knew I had it. My father and I have had many conversations about my grandfather and hunting but I could never mention the guns. It hurt him too much knowing that those should still be in the family with me and still using them.

A couple of weeks ago I was looking at the pictures but couldn't find the receipt. I was off for two days and tore my house apart looking for it but couldn't find it. I was crushed. Yesterday while cleaning out my desk at work I found it. I don't know how or why it was there, I'm just happy I have it again. I told my father I found it and told him what I planned on doing. Here is where the project starts.

The guns were sold on December 12, 1979 to Luciano's Sport Shop in Lodi. There is a very slim chance that someone from here at one time bought those guns or once owned them. I attempting to find them and purchase them back if possible. If not, at the very least to see and hold them as I have pictures of deer and bear that they harvested. Price is really not the issue as the sentimental value and easing of some pain is true value here. Years ago I mentioned this to Luciano's when I was there and they told me they had no records that far back. Long guns sold between private parties only required a Certificate of Eligibility between them, no FFL transfer as is in place now.

The first was a Winchester Model 94 30/30 Serial #2769698

The second is a Remington Model 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge Serial #61680V

I'm asking anyone on here that may own these types of long guns and may have purchased them from there or from someone else, to check you serial numbers to see if may have one and let me know. I have the receipt and can show it to verify. It's a needle in a haystack search but I have to try and start somewhere so I figured I would start here. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Is there a database that is open to the public to search by serial number if the gun is in circulation or owned?  Also try posting in a Reddit forum for nj firearms.

Maybe reach out to manufacturer and email them this and serial #. By chance someone registered for warranty or something else. They might be able to reach out to last person they are aware of owning for you.

I was born & raised in Lodi, and my family and the Luciano family where tight. Both Mike (the father) & his son Joe passed away, if they where alive maybe a slight chance of finding the original paperwork on who they sold it to.

Wish you the very best in your search

Tried that awhile back when Joe was alive. No luck. Don’t know if the store, FFL, or inventory was acquired by someone else

I remember this original post. I had the guys in my hunting club check their guns as they're all from that area in NJ. I really wish you luck, anything is possible.

I really appreciate that you would even ask that. Thank you for your effort

No problem at all. I understand how important it must be to you to track these down.

How long ago did Luciano’s close down?  How often did they have to turn their bound book of gun sales in (my father surrendered his when he closed after 25 years).  Might be worth contacting the local ATF office.  46 years ago, might be tough sledding!  Good luck!
