Pennsy continues to lead with innovative ways for hunters to access properties to hunt…

Gaining access to hunt quality property is an age old issue!

Interesting idea to offer a Master Hunter database for farmers to use to allow high level, ethical hunters on their farms to help with deer management.

You don’t need “master hunters,” although it wouldn’t hurt, you need hunters that will shoot does!

Thats why NJ multiple buck tags are stupid .

many families only use 2 or 3 deer a season .

So no reason for them to want to shoot does .

Other states having one buck tag , makes EVERYONE wanting more than 1 deer a season to shoot does .

Shooting 1/1 keeps things in check .

Kinda agree with the logic, but not so sure it would play out that way in reality.
the vast majority of hunters take one or two deer, I think they’ll take whatever comes along after an initial effort at shooting a buck.
I really don’t think having those extra tags has the actual impact some are making it out to be.

There are guys even here on this site that ABSOLUTELY won’t shoot a doe .

need does shot,i'm your guy.harvesting big bucks is great but full freezers are better.we go thru 8-9 deer a year and a bear or two.we live off that and fish.thanks to the butcher i use we have all that we need from snacks to meals.

Minutely small sample size hammer, can’t use this site as the norm.

Absolutely small sampling , but the same runs through for many not in this site .

lots seasons , lots buck tags , no need to shoot does if only needing a few deer .

Guys wanna bang their chest they shot 3 or 4 bucks . Been that way for 50 years .

Well I have to say, the numbers don’t bear that out. I don’t recall the actual number of hunters that shoot more than one buck, but I think it was insignificant in the overall impact.

@mazzgolf probably still has that sheet from FG showing quite a few guys shoot more than 1 buck .

the low percentage was those shooting 4 or more, which that number was still in the thousands

Another point to consider in this, which I believe goes counter to the “too many buck tag argument,” is look at the reason PA is implementing this program, it’s because guys are not shooting enough does right?
Well PA only allows one buck and guys still don’t shoot does! So the excessive tag argument has no merit if you look at the dynamics in PA.
It would appear guys shoot their one buck and are done for the season,  so limiting buck tags in NJ would likely not increase the harvest of females.

Pa shoots more does than bucks every season

‘most years it’s 1.5 to 2 does per buck

I can say there are a lot of Fudds in the mountains.

The ol don't shoot doe mentality

Apparently that’s still not enough if there’s a need to increase access to farm lands that have excess deer.
Any idea  what the doe/buck ratio is in PA?
