Prices are very different from one store to another but generally high. I guess it depends on their supplier.

Even if the supplier wasn't hit with bird flu, the supply and demand will drive all prices high.

I bought two dozen a few weeks ago. That will hold me for a while. Don't eat a lot of eggs. My wife uses a lot when she makes cookies with the grandkids.

Some egg producers will make a killing. Some will get their flocks wiped out. :whatever:

October 2024 Biden orderd 45 Million egg laying hens killed, it takes roughly 12 months for hens to mature to lay eggs

Chicks in April will start laying around Sept-Oct.   45 million is a lot to replace.  That alone will reduce the amount of chickens laying for the market to be breeding chickens. $3 - $5 for a dozen eggs at local stands around here but it's a slow time of year for chickens to be laying eggs and will be lucky to find some there.

Of course I stopped raising chickens last year when my d-i-l started raising them.  I had eggs all year because I kept a light on in the coop during the winter.  She hasn't done that yet

Why were they killed?

Heard they should not be wiping out millions at the affected farms cuz some could have developed the natural immunity to it. Who knows what to believe.
