I use to use Filtrate brand. 

When i had the old unit replaced my friend told me use merv13 but stay away from name brand paying more on the name,

That's especially true for systems like mine that take the thin 1" thick filters. If I had a need for such high filtration, I would need to buy higher quality/more expensive filters that would still have good air flow. But, my home doesn't need it, anyway.

Decent filter with 8 or less merv rating  improves air circulation back to the unit which keeps the unit from overheating during heating season and freezing up during cooling season . Just my experience. I use Home Depot brand 1” filter change with every mortgage payment .
