Anybody else putting in for Wyoming tags?  Deadline is at the end of month.

Last fall I was lucky enough to spend 28 days in Wyoming goofing off and hunting.  That said I have 6 points and my friend has 3.   There is a special unit that has tags  that allows you to hunt the migration up until 31 Jan with a rifle (2026).  I was able to get permission on 4 ranches to hunt Elk at no charge.  This is all because a business owner and I chatted about my prior military service and he made some calls.  Wyoming is a special place and the people are very nice and pro-military.  When the Elk migrate they will walk right through a fence, and the ranchers are not fans of going out and repairing fences at -25F.  This will be a cold weather hunt in full white camo.

Good luck! I'm putting in for the Pronghorn lottery in Montana and I have scheduled a Mule deer hunt there with my youngest son who's in the Air Force later this year.

That’s the hardest part.  Getting the elk out whole.  I will rent a snowmobile if I have to.

Just wondering, why do they have the no gutting rule? :hmmmer:

The Yellowstone heard of Elk carries Bangs disease or Brucellosis.  Does not have an affect on humans but can wipe out a cattle herd.  Many of the ranchers in Jackson have been there for 6 generations.  They dont want any chance of the cattle eating the gut pile and infecting the herd.

I am too old to start applying in another point state. I wish I did Wyoming and Nevada when I was younger. I was lucky enough to hunt Arizona twice , Utah once, Montana once, and I hunted New Mexico several times and also guided there when I was young. I play the lottery game in too many states for too many species to mention. I actually have been applying for over 30 years for Arizona desert bighorn and I most likely will never see that tag before I die. Last year I finally drew a Colorado archery bull tag after 14 or 16 years of applying and I had to turn it back in because my knees gave out.

Todays young hunters won’t have the same opportunity's that I had unless they are very wealthy which sucks.
