What time you get up to hunt Squirrel?

I like to squirrel hunt after deer season is through , primarily because I just cant hang up the guns quite yet and accept the fact that huntings over till next November!! Just today, I read an article in Game & Fish on Squirrel hunting in which the Author states that hunting is actually best late morning and early afternoon this time of year.  Im assuming this is so because its mid-winter at this point and too cold early and late for Squirrels so they wait for the woods to warm up a bit.  From my experience, however, squirrels have been plenty active early in the am , maybe not crack of dawn like deer , but early enough. I like to get into the woods around 8am and hunt till about noon, normally because for me, afternoons typically havent been as productive; what say you?

I am no pro just observations. I live in the woods.  I don’t really see squirrels during the main part of the day while outside my house, minus them prepping for winter.  Most time it’s a bit after sunlight and last hour or 2 of sunlight I see them very active

They are the first thing I usually see in the morning on my corn when it's cold. They need to eat to replenish the calories that they lost in the 5 degree weather.

I try to be heading in by shooting time or minutes before and if see or hear them it'll be for a few hours.

I have seen them during the last hour of shooting time when deer hunting.

See them early morning before the rising sun gets the air moving, and just before dark.  If windy, might as well stay home.  Put corn out and you can get your limit with one shot

U may be joking.  But to those that don't know your not allowed to hunt near bait for squirrel

Actually, I looked this up recently - you CAN hunt squirrel over bait IF you are not concealed in a blind and not in a tree stand. Page 22:

 

So if you just sit next to a tree real quiet and still, you can pop them over your bait pile

Yeah, I agree. I think theyre much more active in the morning ; not sure about later afternoon, though.

When I used to hunt them first light was best action. Just wait under a big wide spreading white oak and you should have action once you can see them.

I never went before daylight to get in the woods early for squirrel. Id get out between 7 and 8 and did good between 8 and ten.  Late evening was good to me too.

I agree, but i think that when its this old out, they sleep in a bit and delay showing themselves till a bit later in the am.

Deer hunting today I saw bunch grays come out around 4:30 - 5 pm . Clear cold and light wind

Only time I see squirrels is while deer hunting. Only time I see deer is while squirrel hunting.
