Eyesofthewoods Posted January 9 Posted January 9 With this cold spell We’ve been having, good ice has to be near by for fishing. The feels like hasn’t gotten above 15deg F in 3 days here in Roxbury so I know some other spots are even colder north of here. With temps like this certain waters should be gaining inches by the day. Anyone see anyone out fishing yet? I’ll most likely try to get out on hopatcong like usual or Tilcon which I have before. Good luck and stay safe!
Roon Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I was lazy with setting up my back yard pond. 1500 gallons of water gone, upper pond got an ice dam overflowed emptied till lower pond water spout tipped and started pumping water out A crap load of money in pumps and a bunch of fish plus one that I have had for 27 years now. All this after a very long night with a story yet to be told. That's where all your freaking ice is lol. Heater in, ponds filled back up, everyone and thing safe and survived, just a really shitty morning after a REALLY SHITTY night. Not a complete a$$ hole just one of the dingle berries that hang off it.
nmc02 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I checked yesterday....3.5 inches of ice where I fish in Sussex county. Should be good by weekend Bucksnbows, jumpthestring and TroutandBucks 3
jumpthestring Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Buddy was out on a local lake in Vernon. ice 4'' and he caught some bass and pickerel on shiners.
trapoholic Posted January 9 Posted January 9 With this much below freezing temps, this week-end for sure.

flukebelly Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Saw 4 guys fishing Budd Lake today. Most of the area lakes look ready.
mike033089 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 The lake in Allamuchy right off exit 19 by the school still has lots of open water.
Mallard1100 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Be careful out there. Just took a drive to scout. Lots of open water still because of this damn wind. If we didn’t have the wind it would be much better. Small ponds ok. Some bigger stuff needs this wind to lay down so it can at least build a base. trapoholic and mike033089 2

CapeCod Posted January 10 Posted January 10 3 guys out on Hopatcong yesterday. Wind was crazy. They had 2 false wind flags in the short time I watched. My preferred jigging lakes were still open water.

Like u said - the wind been brutal That's because of the significant stream that flows into that particular pond, Jack. Just so you know. https://www.troutscapes.com/ https://nativefishcoalition.org/national-board
Bucksnbows Posted January 10 Posted January 10 A buddy checked the lake I grew up on in West Milford this morning and it has 4.5" of black ice so far. We are going out on it tomorrow. It should have 5" + by morning, and now that the winds are laying down (finally), it should be a nice day in mostly sunny weather tomorrow. Good luck and be safe out there.
