more games played means more opportunities to break records.  If he does it in the next 42 games then the comparison is the same.  Otherwise he is the new record holder with more games to do it.

Just like the NFL rushing mark.  OJ went over 2000 in 14 games.  Dickerson needed 16 games to get 2105 and was the first to point out if Barkley broke it he had an extra game to do it.
