Billy Z Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Do you think it has a negative impact, versus baiting during the afternoon?
Rusty Posted January 2 Posted January 2 It all depends. In general it's best to bait when deer are not active and when you plan to hunt, such as dawn and dusk. I'm sure that there are circumstances when baiting at night would be advantages, such as spots where you typically hunt mornings.
vdep217 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) I only bait at night during season. And still have deer all day long. And night. Edited January 2 by vdep217
Michael Britt Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) Bait on your walk in and not so much that there will be leftovers, helps diminish chance of bumping feeding deer walking in next time. Also do not always do a pile, spread it out at times to make them work for it and spread out for shooting opportunities. Edited January 2 by Michael Britt
KEITH STONE Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I use to bait Thursday night for Saturday. Yobuck293 and nmc02 2
nmc02 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I like to bait a minimum of 3 days before I hunt. In my spots usually put out a 50 lb bag per day & throw handfuls instead of pile. Tarhunt and Yobuck293 2
smittty Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I normally bait late morning early afternoon. But this time of year the it doesn’t matter and it doesn’t last long a 50 pound bag will never make it till morning for get about a few days

I also spread it out and make them work for it. I try to cover it with leaves and tamp in the ground when soft. Between the turkey, birds and squirrels 50lbs don't last long. Michael Britt 1
Recurve hntr Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I usually bait with 100 lbs of corn and 100 lbs of sweet potatoes a few days before I start hunting. Then every time I hunt I carry in a shop rite bag of corn. The deer still come in looking even if they cleared me out. This is a small private property. My buddy gets home from work and hunts his spot on the same property. If he gets home from work after dark he will ride his quad right past my spot to bait his spot. He will pull my game card and his. He’s definitely jumping deer but for some reason they still come back in. There is a lot of people walking dogs through the property but I think it helps. The deer are use to seeing people. Hunting state land is a different story. I bait two weeks before muzzle loader season. It takes a while for them to get comfortable with my sent and the bait. I’m hunting close to the bedding area close to a swamp. I have to get one quick because they become nocturnal. It was easier when I hunted the state lands when my dad was here. We never baited. I only bait now because of my bad back and I can’t do all the walking and scouting I could do when he was alive. I enjoy hunting the state land because you really earn your deer. Swamprat 1
