jerseyboy32 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) I’ve been using a 8 and 9 ft pole. People are telling me I need bigger 10,11. What’s a recommended size. I tried a 10 heavy and I didn’t feel good casting. Thank you I’m looking at Diawa surf combo in either 8 or 9. Thank you. Mainly stripers and blues. And what else may swim. I use a 2 piece 10' when throwing weight and bait. It's rated for 6-8oz. When throwing a 1oz weight when dragging fluke bait or kingfish rigs I use a 7'10" rod. Throwing 2 oz plugs in the surf it's usually a 8 or 9' pole rated to 1 1/2-3oz lures. JHbowhunter, gregtpal and JFC1 3
tuny Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I've got several old rods that you're welcome to, I'm located in Tuckerton. I have a 14' one-piece lamglass blank that you can have. Buckmaster3405, jerseyboy32, 2lungking and 1 other 4
Nomad Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I use an 11 foot Lami off the surf throwing 2 to 5 ounce plugs. Has a lot of flex to it. Nice for fighting fish of all sizes.https://www.lamiglas.com/collections/gsb-series/products/gsb11ms?variant=4315531542569 jerseyboy32 and Billy Z 2

the truth Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 All mine are 9’. That’s just my preference though. I only really use sputniks also. I’m not in heavy surf usually so that setup works well for me

vdep217 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 11'1 odm. I can tell you I've tried the factory rods and will say this. If you plan on surf casting with any regularity with plugs do yourself a favor and get yourself a custom surf stick. Built to how you want it length to real seat etc. I have an old baby ula with an adjustable reel seat and that pays dividends when standing chest deep in water. You will have the distance if needed. My next one will most likely be the odm evolution but I'm very happy with my current odm built by a member here jerseyboy32 1
mike033089 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I have seen guys use surf poles for trout, anything goes bucky 1
Nomad Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) If you’re fishing around jetties, I would go with 11 foot little extra length helps a lot maneuvering them around the rocks. You can also cast a little further. Edited December 31, 2024 by Nomad jerseyboy32 and optowalt 2

deerkiller18 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Someone else said it. If you plan to do it a lot spend the money and get a rod build for you. Do some research and find a blank and reel setup that is light and you can cast all day or night. I do not have one as I only surf fish a couple nights a year but my buddies have setups that are extremely comfortable to cast for hours.
