Billy Z Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) What is your average distance? Any why do you prefer that style bullet? Edited December 17, 2024 by Billy Z
nmc02 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Most of my shots are under 50 yds, therefore use a heavy bullet (290 grain). I only shoot the Barnes spitfire TMZ because of the performance, not the type of tip. They seldom take a step after being hit. Cousin Brown and electric10162 1 1
vdep217 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) 240 xtp on top of 2 50grain pyrodex pellets. Average shot is 60 to 70 I set up further than bow as it gives more wiggle room with wind.have killed to 200 with it. I shoot hallow point so I don't have to worry about messing up the tip or using a special piece for ramrod Edited December 17, 2024 by vdep217 Billy Z, Swamprat and Farmingdales Finest 2 1
BHC Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 250 gr Barnes Tez, all shots are under 100 yards
smittty Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 The only difference between those two bullet types is one has a polymer tip. They show perform the same for the most part MGHunter66 1

But that’s an awesome performing bullet and will perform same as the Barnes expanders with out the tip BHC 1
BHC Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Just now, smittty said: Great bullet in most muzzle loaders but not all only because some guns won’t like that blue sabot. Tez is also chambered by barnes in their 20 ga slugs. Small ammo company down south actually chambers it in the 450 bushmaster
npbow Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I wouldn't care what others prefer, It's what your gun prefers use what most accurate, both are very capable of doing the job.

With that gun I went with a thore bulllet to bore zero sabot. Thore the company that makes them has a contract with Barnes and that’s what the thore bullet to bore is it’s a Barnes bullet machined and cupped no need for the plastic sabot BHC 1
thefirstndsecond Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Thomson center shock wave with super glide sabots 250 grain Works well Had the Hornady hollow points didn't have same luck. The polymer tip may be more accurate out of a high-powered round due to its ballistic coefficient from the polymer tip ,but out of a muzzy I doubt you will see a difference . Remember shot placement is more important than devastation, deer are very tough.

I stopped using the T/C Shockwaves for the mere reason I never had one drop on the spot. Extremely accurate but performance sucked. thefirstndsecond and Gman 1 1
nmc02 Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 I elected to shoot the Barnes Spitfire TMZ bullets because they are tighter fitting. Allegedly the tighter they are, the more accurate they are. However, all the guys I know that shoot the TEZ love them and say accuracy is insane. The TMZ take some effort to get down the barrel for the first shot. Surprisingly, easier after the first shot using Blackhorn 209. I shoot out of a TC Omega, Knight Ultra Lite, & CVA Accura. All shoot them great. The TEZ is a Flat base design, while the TMZ is a boattail design.
