The college degree requirements are very narrow & specific.  Not many graduate with the requirements...

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Biology, Biostatistics, Microbiology, Natural Science, Zoology, Marine Science, Wildlife Biology, Marine Biology, Animal Science, Botany, Physics, Wildlife Science/Conservation, Fisheries Science, Wildlife Management, Conservation Law Enforcement, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or Environmental Science. The Bachelor's degree must include or be supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester hour credits in any combination of the following areas: Fisheries Science, Wildlife Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management or Biological Sciences.

NOTE: A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Parks and Recreation or Criminal Justice supplemented by thirty (30) semester hour credits in any combination of the subject areas indicated above will be considered acceptable

Education requirements vs salary isn't worth it. Better off getting hired by NJSP, NJDOC, County Corrections, or municipality police....same pension, Healthcare etc for the last three i listed and better pay

I don't agree. All due respect given to you (I know you were in corrections), I would rather the freedom of being a conservation officer over a correction officer. Respond to calls and not with inmates daily.

To each their own.

Also as a CO you probably get to know every single bit of land that’s open to hunting and decent. Especially waterfowl lol

I meet the education requirements but I’m 31 years too old.  I wonder why the CO’s aren’t better paid?

I hunted New Mexico for elk in 2016, I kept getting emails that they were looking for CO’s, you needed a 4 year degree in science or combo science/criminal justice, starting salary was $35K!

You do know corrections isn't the same as it was 30 yrs ago?NJDOC, has the largest most advanced hazmat team (COBRA) in the state, they have fugitive response team, active shooter team, the whole dept is trained in crowd control,  Special Operations Group (various levels), the only thing they are lacking is forensics, latgest armory in the state, far more advance department then most think and know and advanced more since I retired in 2021. Some I'm friends have cracked $250k mark, a select few $300k. Working inside is what one makes of ir, it's not hard, it can be dangerous reason why they preach DT training through out your career.....i will gladly admit i don't miss it, i miss a selected few officers but we get together o ce per month  for breakfast.

NJ Conservation's union falls under PBA 105 (NJDOC)

I agree. I have friends and family in corrections, and they make big money with OT.. however between the 2 choices I'd 100% pick Conservation Officer. Think about the difference in what you see everyday. Inside walls of a prison, or the outdoors. No brainer IMHO

Also with NJDOC they take out for social security which is huge when that time comes to withdrawal.

They don't care if you call out sick as long as you have the time on the books, so no problem taking off for whatever you want like hunting season! You want off for the major holidays no problem finding someone to work for you if you're scheduled. You also get permanent days off / shift

Why the age limit of 35? I am 58 and could pass the physical test part right now but my engineering degree does not count.

I spent most of my money on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.
