electric10162 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Just received word there will be no extension this year as the 20% reduction has been satisfied. https://dep.nj.gov/njfw/news-2024-12-16-no-extension-of-2024-black-bear-hunt/ BHC and Rusty 2

BHC Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 This is a good thing in the fact and most importantly that a hunt was needed and it was successful, a smack in the anti's face FeniQuest217 1
mike033089 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 If the hunt goes to 30% so should the extension.

mazzgolf Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 A mid-20s percentage cull means this was a perfectly successful management hunt that did what it was designed to do - manage the bear population. Not too many, not too little --- a Goldilocks hunt. Congrats to the successful bear hunters.... and thanks to those in DFW and the Council who pushed to get back the hunt. (as for me? I tried this year... maybe next year ) Bigmac 1

If they do not get 20%, that's when they extend - because they want 20% reduction. Once they hit 20%, that's a good successful hunt without a need to extend. 30% is the absolute maximum allowed - hunt is immediately stopped within 24 hours once that threshold is reached (even if it is reached during the October Segment A hunt). In other words, they don't want to reach 30%. Rusty and mike033089 1 1

Jcol6268 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Yeah we eclipsed 20% during the bow hunt. I knew I wouldn’t be bear hunting during the gun season with no extension.
10deer Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 we dont want them to end up like the deer herd want some bears for years to come
