If the hunt goes to 30% so should the extension.

If it goes to 30% it is stopped.  20% is the limit for extension.

A mid-20s percentage cull means this was a perfectly successful management hunt that did what it was designed to do - manage the bear population. Not too many, not too little --- a Goldilocks hunt.

Congrats to the successful bear hunters.... and thanks to those in DFW and the Council who pushed to get back the hunt.

(as for me? I tried this year... maybe next year :) )

I mean if they allow up to 30% during regular season then why not let the extension continue until 30% is met

Because it is 20% they are looking for, not 30%. If they do not get 20%, that's when they extend - because they want 20% reduction. Once they hit 20%, that's a good successful hunt without a need to extend.

30% is the absolute maximum allowed - hunt is immediately stopped within 24 hours once that threshold is reached (even if it is reached during the October Segment A hunt). In other words, they don't want to reach 30%.

I see thanks,  still too many bears though.  Be interesting to know if they break the numbers down by private vs public land.
