Rusty Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) Driving deer is illegal in some states and is very polarizing amongst hunters. Based on my own personal experiences with groups that drive I have mixed feelings about the practice. Should deer drives be legal? Why or why not? Should they be legal on public land? Why or why not? thefirstndsecond Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Don't we have this same discussion every year? I keep seeing the same bruised horse. I guess it depends on the location and traditions of the area. I'm against banning any type of legal hunting. As once we loose it we will never get it back and they will want to take more away. There is plenty of land that isn't allowed to be driven FeniQuest217 and Michael Britt 2

Michael Britt Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 First things first, I am NOT saying legal = right. There are plenty of legal things in this country that are abominations. That aside, if you don't like drives, then don't drive. Too many guys on here want to judge others, when their opinions do not align. I think it's fair to say nobody knows everybody on here personally, which means you do not know their motivations, overall values, character, etc. I hunted public 5 out of 6 days and within 5 minutes of home, I SAW ONE OTHER HUNTER, not droves of drivers! Maybe they are a menace where you are. Then hunt private or map scout and find a more quiet piece of public, NJ is loaded with public! In the meantime, it's the same crybabies, crying about the same crap all the time. mikejd 1
Buck154 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Get rid of deer drives. I've done it years ago and still wasn't fond of it back then. But everyone has their own opinion. I enjoy at least watching deer and wildlife as much as shooting one. Billy Z and jumpthestring 2
JD48 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Did a few years ago, didn't care for it, not against it, would like to see the clubs be more selective
Greybeard Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) Where's the option for 'Yes, but only on private land'. Should not be allowed where others who are not included, or unaware, will have their hunting disrupted from first morning until the last minute of the last day. Harassment? Need to ask? Add disrespect too. How about being on stand since an hour before light just to have 4 guys post 30yds in front of you, 30 yards apart, to cut you off from shooting a deer. Or have a group of 10+ hunters at 7:30am on opening day see you from over a hundred yards away and walk right up to you to ask if you seen anything then start there drive pushing away from you. Or be in the woods and have to drop behind a dirt mound as deer run past you because the A holes are throwing round after round of buck shot at their asses. And vdept217, it isn't only during 6 day. It's every day during all gun seasons. They won't drive deer off their own lands, but i've had Ny hunters drive deer off of NJ state land, and private land, toward NY. I'm sure the park rds up here will all be closed for the season now, too. It's the only thing that helps to keep some deer in the area safe for next year. thefirstndsecond 1
trapoholic Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Years ago, I attended a deer hunting seminar and the speaker was Leonard Lee Rue. He was a well-known whitetail authority. His feeling on deer drives is that you're hunting a frightened animal and not a deer. Lungsonlvs and 6.5 Swede 2
