Just got home from Maine.  I was up there for eight days of rifle hunting. The weather was very warm, it never got below freezing at night and was up to 46 in the daytime.

We found some really good buck sign in the areas we hunted last year and had high hopes even with the warm weather.

On the third day, I sat on a little spruce knob, looking out into an old clear cut. There was a nice trail, running through the old cut with some scrapes on it. Looking down through the spruce, I saw a movement and then antlers. I only had a small opening to make my decision and decided to shoot.

He weighed 175 pounds dressed and I figured 2 1/2 years old. Not the big one we were looking for but was still happy to get him, especially with the conditions. Only deer I saw in eight days of hunting. My friend saw four does.  Always an adventure up there, looking forward to next year already. Of course you can see in the picture with the cabin it’s starting to snow just as we had to leave.
