1980's OTC "Doe Day" tags?

How many of you remember what we had to go through back in the 1980's to get OTC Doe Day tags before the internet was invented?  Correct me if I am wrong, but it was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and they went on sale at 4:00 PM maybe? For those in north Jersey living in Bergen County, we had to fight the holiday traffic and drive out to Pequest Fish Hatchery. I can remember the line to get inside to purchase the tags was wrapped around the building! I am not sure if I have the correct day or time of day posted above. Does anyone else remember this non-sense?

That is where the term "Over the Counter" or OTC was developed.

I sold them at Pequest back in the 80s, so we've probably met.

I remember standing in line at the hatchery as a young kid with my dad trying to get a zone 4 permit. Had to be around 1996ish

I remember leaving the house at 2am to get on line.  Limited amount of doe tags per zone.  Don't remember the day but they went on sale early in the morning.  I have old digests that would have more about it in them.  OTC is when you were able to get them, or left overs, at a place that sells licenses

If I am remembering this right Before over the counter I thought we had to apply by mail. It was a lottery..it was one day permit.  It was called doe day..

Up til last year for PA we still had to mail our applications into the county treasurer.  He would allocate who gets the tags eith residents being first priority obviously.  Now they do it online.  Much easier process.

Local sports shop would call my house to tell my father and I the application got delivered,  we would go get then and mail them a day before the open lottery opens

I remember standing in line at Winslow wildlife ranger station early in the morning trying to get my permit.

I remember the mail in card with hope of getting drawn.

back when we had herds of deer you were done by 8 o clock we always had a few guys with permits  who filled them out and sent them back and got drawn

That was back in the day when it was an actual lottery!  I remember seeing 50+ deer single file coming through, all does and maybe one spike lol!

My brother and I were driving down the road a couple of days ago and we saw 10 in a field and we both said that was a lot of deer to see at one time anymore and how back in the day we would see herds of over 40 back in the day.
