nmc02 Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I am considering buying either the Knight Peregrine muzzleloader in .45 caliber or the CVA Paramount Pro in .45 caliber. I am not sure I should buy in a .45 caliber, as I think they tend to be more for mid-west and/or shooting greater distances. I like the knight rifles as they are made with top quality components, but they are hard to get on the phone and often wonder if they will go out of business. The CVA Paramount Pro is also made in .50 caliber. Any opinions on .45 caliber? bullets?? Or do I just stick with a .50 cal?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Silkcitymedic Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 The .50 sabot SST 250 grain projectiles I use are a .45 slug in a .50 sabot. I shoot two 777 pellets and the 250 gr projectile to keep the velocity up some and not beat myself up with recoil. Worked with authority on my muzzleloader deer this year. I really like my CVA accura V2 with vortex scope. Carries well, not much recoil, great trigger, and accurate.

LeakyBoots Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I have a .45 caliber Pennsylvania long rifle. Percussion, round ball. Second favorite gun. But then, I guess that's a bit different than what you are asking about. But it is a very good gun for deer.

FeniQuest217 Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I shoot a .45 round w/ sabot. i have the Traditions Nitrofire. I have only shot the rounds they suggest using it with i have never experimented with just a .50 caliber and no sabot. Prior to buying i was really looking into the CVA Paramount - it caught my eye and I know a lot on here shoot CVA. I was between that and the Accura and then i stumbled upon the Nitrofire. nmc02 1
Booner Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I'm a .45 fan. Own many .50's and .45's. Many. I always grab a 45. Just like shooting a 20ga over a 12ga slug gun. Why some guys prefer the 20? The 45's I use have some unique features. PM me and I'll explain. I think the 45 has better ballistics and performance. I'm not and don't want to get into a debate why I think this but it's my opinion from doing tons of real world testing. Less powder, slightly less recoil, better trajectory and a easily found cheap bullet. XTP with high pressure harvester sabot and blackhorne. nmc02, Jcol6268, the truth and 1 other 4 LET EM GO SO HE CAN GROW
Greg Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I have a .45 knight disc elite, Love it. I shoot hornady xtp's 10mm in harvester sabots, 100gr blackhorn. Shots clover at 50 yards. nmc02 1
