Popular Post gobblergetter Posted November 2, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 2, 2024 Last year there was a buck that was deemed off limits to kill by gun club members as he had good potential. Fast foward to this year and I knew atleast two members were hunting him hard so I stayed away. Yesterday I decided to hunt a neighboring piece that i hadnt seen anyone hunting and it had a running stream though it...Water ! Very important right now ! After sitting till 10:00 and not seeing any deer, or getting any response to rattleing and grunts I decided to go to work and return another day. With climber on back and cocked crossbow in hand I started walking down the woods road towards my truck and i heard a commotion down by the creek. Sounded like a buck chaseing a doe. Soon everything was quiet and I grunted softly and heard steps in the leaves. He steeped out in the woods road about 70 yards ahead of me . He turned to face me, laid his ears back and started stiff legging Towards Me ! At about 40 yards , I was starting to think about sending a broadhead between his shoulder blades when he stopped, stared at me for what seemed like ever. He then turned broadside while still watch me but I stayed still. He turned his head to look behind himself and I sent one though the ribs ! He swung a wide semicircle around me and ended up falling with in 30 yards of a pulley system we have between two tree for a feeder to hung. I noticed a patch of hair missing and a puss pocket right next to where i hit him. Turns out my buddy whacked him 3 weeks ago and never said anything. I gutted him while being carefull of a possible broadhead and dragged him to the pulleys, raised him , backed the truck under him. PERFECT. The mobile butcher found a broken shaft near his offside shoulder blade rocky, ratherbhunting, Farmingdales Finest and 60 others 44 1 18

archer36 Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) Congratulations. Your story is similar to ones I have had. One night last year, I was walking back to our parking area with another guy in the club. About 100 yds away from the vehicles we see a bedded 9 pt buck in a hay field about 30 yds away. We thought it was injured. I had my crossbow cocked and shot it laying down. It was surreal. He was just laying there thinking we would walk past him. Second story is I shot a 8 pt buck following a doe ML season. When I inspected it, there was a 12" piece of arrow and broadhead protruding from the opposite side. The buck was acting completely normal. If you are around long enough, you will see some strange things in the hunting world. Once again, congratulations.
