IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING
DEER MANAGEMENT ZONES 45 & 46

Please note for the upcoming 2024-25 Deer Season:

Deer Management Zones 45 and 46 will be open for deer hunting during the 2024 Fall Bow, Youth Archery Day, 6-Day Firearm, and Youth Firearm Day ONLY.

ALL other deer seasons for DMZ 45 and DMZ 46 are CLOSED until further notice.

Bow, shotgun, and muzzleloader permits WILL NOT be available for DMZ 45 and DMZ 46.

Closures are a result of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) mortalities from 2021 and 2022 and a failure of the population to recover.

This area will continue to be closely monitored by NJDEP Fish & Wildlife. We encourage you to harvest coyotes in this area, which can aid in the recovery of the deer herd within these DMZs.

For more information, please email NJDEER@dep.nj.gov.

it would be nice if they'd open coyote hunting to centerfire rifles during the season closures in those zones

They are extending rifle season from August 1st to March 15, state wide . I just don’t remember if this is to take place this year or the next year.

The changes you are thinking of are part of the game code changes proposed for 2025... not for this year.

See slide 58 here - this  is what was presented to the F&G Council last month.  (but still no centerfires on WMAs and Parks until after December 31).

Permit season was only suppose to control population of deer .If the numbers are down they are doing the right thing. They can also limit the amount of doe or buck taken . Good to see that they are watching. I really think only way to get rid of coyotes is trappers we need more. Maybe put a bounty on them . They did that for fox in late 60s.

I can't ever see monetary rewards put on wildlife in this state as long as the animal rights extremists hold sway over many of our politicians.... We have them already trying to shut down the clubs from holding contests (contests that help with this very thing of reducing predators) and those contests don't even involve the state giving out money... can you imagine the uproar over state money going to bounties? Oh my... the faux outrage! "They don't care about wildlife! It's all about the money!!!"

FW can barely rub two nickels together as it is, let alone to "pay" out bounties to hunters to doing their job for them. And if they could, they would piss it away on stupid patches or stickers to give them instead of a financial incentive.

Not necessarily directing this at you but I see so many people complain about fish and game and I have to wonder what have they done to make a change.  How many go to federation meetings how many volunteer for wma clean ups.  Even the youth hunts are the same volunteers year in and year out.  We can bitch all we want but only action on our part is going to do anything.  And it needs to start with habitat.  Let's get the state to get back to planting clover or rye more controlled burns on the right places on rotation.  Hinge cutting etc.  And before you bring up m9netary issues there are funds available through pitman Robinson grants.
