Advice on lithium batteries for trolling motor?

Recommended Posts

Looking to pickup a lithium battery for my 12 volt trolling motor.  However, I’ve read some reviews that there’s a big difference between low quality brands and high quality brands.  Anyone have any recommendations on brands.  Probably looking at 100ah size?  May use it for a camping trailer too.

Thanks

Buy the biggest deep cycle walmart battery. It is $120 w a 2 or 3 year no questions asked warranty.

EverStart Maxx Marine Battery, Group Size 29DC 12 Volt, 845 CCA

This is what I’m using now.  Was looking to get the lithium for the weight savings.

In my opinion, lithium way over priced & weight difference isn't worth it.

I've been using Dakota Lithium in my Golf Cart and tractors for a few years now. 11 year warranty can't be beat. So far so good.

Everyone I know using Dakota for trolling motor has had a lot of issues

warranty doesn’t mean anything when your stranded on the water on an all electric lake

With all due respect, most don't know how to size batteries for their application and intended usage. I only use the 135ah and above units. Pricey, but worth it.

Guys setting up these batteries know exactly what they want .

and Dakota doesn’t make batteries above 110 for 36 volts that most big trolling motors use

‘would have to use (3) 12v to go yo 135

I havent bitten the bullet yet as I am very happy with my West Marine AGM for my Minn Kota riptide....2 Full seasons no issues, have yet to run out of juice even at 7 hrs of use in not ideal conditions. Have optima blue tops for the main batteries ( 4 of them ) and am now on the 6th year with no issues.

My buddy went to the west marine lithiums on his 34 seavee for the same trolling motor and has been issue free so far, he did say there was a noticable increase in power when he switched, I believe they have a 9 yr warranty

Interesting topic, I was considering two Dakota batteries for my 24 V Terrova.  I have a very small boat so the weight savings would be important to me.  I guess I will hold off for a while, my Walmart batteries are doing fine except for the weight.

My Dakota battery for fish finder is doing good, 2nd season with it
