cantw82start
Does anyone have any tips, tricks or tools they can recommend for starting a charcoal grill in high winds? We will be going to OBX this summer, the house is near the ocean and has a charcoal grill. It looks like one of those parks & recreation types. Last time we were near the ocean with a charcoal grill, we had a heck of a time getting it lit in the wind. Thanks!

nmc02
Some want plain charcoal, then use chimney. If you don't mind easy lighting charcoal (usually has added fluid, etc).... I found the Royal Oak Minit lite easiest to light. When & where you going?? I will be in Southern Shores the last week of July Edited June 11 by nmc02
electricstart
I don't recommend but I use a propane torch . Once you get a few to light the rest will follow . I hate the taste of lighter fluid. TDietz
Gunsmoke
No question, use the electric charcoal starter. Been using it forever, every time regardless of wind. Home Depot has them. Timbuk2 and cantw82start 1

Hitemnasty
Chimney with tumbleweeds, they’re wood shavings molded in wax. They’ll light up anything. cantw82start and GlocknColts

Silkcitymedic
Made a charcoal chimney out of a capri sun box by poking holes in it, stuffing the bottom with news paper (not too tight, needs to have air), and adding charcoal on top. It worked well for to get the coals going on a camping trip.
