My Fathers Brother Bill who,I am named after made it to day 3 of The Normandy Invasion.  The Halftrack he was in hit a German mine. Like many - he was probably  fighting distant relatives and never knew it.  Name of Schmidt here.

I still have my Grandfathers papers of when he became a American Citizen  back in the mid 1930s. He made some good money during the late 30s with Bareknuckle Boxing. Very similar to the movie- Hard Times with Charles Bronson. His papers list him at 5'8"/165lbs. All Muscle from what my Father told me

Anyway 2 of his Sons went to fight for the Americans in WW2 and just 1 came back. I believe  Bill was just 20 when he was killed.

My Father- much younger then his 2 Brothers opted for the Navy in 1956.

AND THE ACTIONS OF THOSE MEN ARE WHY WE STAND WITH HAND OVER HEART FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM and never take a knee for BS attention.

HONOR THE FALLEN

Over the years the US has sent many of its fine young men & women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return, is enough to bury those that did not return. COLIN POWELL
