I received my Ocea Jigger 2500 today for jigging NJ tuna....super sweet set up!!! I can't wait to use it.

I had 60 lb Cortland C16 hollow put on the reel, as I always use a wind on leader (best connection in my opinion).

I put the reel on a Phenix Megalodon jigging rod (they are inexpensive & made w decent components).

I far prefer conventional v spinning for jigging. I love the ocea jiggers....have a 1500, 2500, & 4000. The Phenix rods are nice, hopefully it isn't too stiff.

I used wind on swivles/ leaders when they first came out.I  Believed more hookups of 20-ft seaguar fluorocarbon leader gave me an advantage over the Tuna's On one trip first tuna color, Captain never saw them before he got pissed sticking out he thought I was gonna snag in the eyelet, well no problem Captain's mouth went a gape he learned something new that night! Lol

I don't use swivels when connecting a wind on leader. Put an end loop in hollow braid then connect w a loop to loop connection. This allows for silky smoothness when reeling leader/braid connection through guides. Never gets hung up and less chance of breaking off a fish.

What’s the advantage of a wind on vs fg? I use fg maybe I’ll switch over

FG takes longer to tie, isn't as strong, & isn't as smooth through the guides.

Negative to wind ons is they are expensive, unless you make your own.

Here is link on how to make an end loop in your hollow core line: https://youtu.be/UIWayrUgDtc?si=5EwSfmvG7v5FrwHN

Here is link on how to connect loop to loop, which an idea stolen from fly fishing (uses the same concept). Most improperly attach fly leaders & wind on leaders. This link will show how to properly:

Between using a loop to loop connection & crimping lures/hooks on; you will have less failures & peak strength without knots.

I hate spinning equipment for jigging also

conventional rod is better for that straight down fight

spinning for top water fight
