Graduation present/Family fishing trip suggestions

Recommended Posts

So instead of doing the usual family get together party for my sons 8th grade graduation, he suggested we all go on a family fishing trip.  I thought that was a great idea!  I was looking at June 23rd.  What is in season for that date?  Where would be a good place to go?  We live in Somerset county so I am guessing a charter out of Point Pleasant or in that area?   He goes with his friends family sometimes for fluke in the bay, but mixed success.  What about stripers? Or just for action maybe bluefish?  I am kinda at a loss because I haven't been on a charter in probably 20 years or more.  I guess I'm just looking for a few pointers.  Thanks all.

Late June will be fine for fluke. I'd be in the ocean but nothing wrong with the Raritan.

Plenty of party boats to jump on in either the Raritan, Shark River or pt pleasant. Just check and make sure there's room for a large party.

It's about your son, not the fishing. You'll have a great time!

LET EM GO SO HE CAN GROW

Great idea.   I would suggest offer some seasick pills the night before just in case. Then 1 pill in the morning.

My highschool graduation gift from my parents back in 1987 was a hunting trip to Maine,  best gift ever

If you don't care what species to go after, I would just let the captain decide the morning of. They know what's biting and what isn't. They want to put people on fish, so if you give them a carte blanche, they will put you on fish.

Contact the fish monger out of point pleasant.  Give him some dates and how many fishing. Teenagers would probably love a night time bluefish trip.

Fishmonger would be great and he’ll put them on fish especially fluke. Nighttime blue fishing may not be the best choice if some guest have not fished before. Chum and dark sky recipe for disaster with sea sickness.

Been there done that with the sickness.  I don’t do well on boats but the last time I attempted was a nighttime bluefish trip. Didn’t catch a thing the whole boat and puked all night.   I get the prescription patch and it doesn’t help me much.

Wow, thank you all for the replies!  My son said he wants it to be just us and the grandparents. So 6 total so far. Nighttime fishing is out, we’re looking for a half day trip. I’m gonna reach out to the names provided and see what happens.
