Eastern Shore trotline

With my commercial license, you have an option to get a new trot line permit.  For a few extra dollars per year on the other commercial license they are authorizing waterman to run trotline for the invasive blue cats now.  I’ve always fished them on rod and reel but the trotline is new to me.  Getting the hang of running the thing out of the kayak in areas where I beaver trap.

 

nearly every hook gets a cat on an overnight soak.  I release the native channels and bullheads.  Starting just the other day running bigger baits and got the first jumbo today.  Unfortunately the holiday weekend crowd tampered badly with one line and stole a bunch of clips and hooks off the other.  Lucky they didn’t work their way up the entire line.

Yeah. I’m focusing on the Blues.  Release most of the channels.  I’d guess that one was about 25 lb, but honestly don’t know.  Measured around 36 inches.

Got the line that was a mess Sunday back out today.  Only a dozen hooks on this one now the way I set it, but all hooks have a whole live bluegill or white perch on them.  It may catch nothing but if it connects I’d think it will be a jumbo
