Predators, predators ever'where

Recommended Posts

Two days in a row now, my turkey hunt was interrupted by 4-legged hunters.

Yesterday, I had that group of turkeys attacked by a fox.

Today, right after shooting light (about 5:45am), I saw a rabbit sprinting right to me; I look behind it and I see 2 coyotes chasing it. I lifted the gun, and the yotes saw me and backed off. They trotted out of range and then stared at me. Between how fast it happened and how little light I had to see, I couldn't shoot (unless I'm 110% sure I'm looking at a coyote, I will never shoot at one - I'm not making the front page news by killing someone's dog that got loose and decided to chase the local wildlife )

Anyway, the farm field I was at isn't all that big - with 2 coyotes on the prowl, my hunt was basically done before it even got started. I hung around for another hour, but nothing was happening so I drove to one of my nearby spots. I actually heard a couple gobblers but they were far away and not interested.

So, two days in a row, two different locations, and both times predators interrupted my hunts. This is getting annoying.  With the rain coming tomorrow, I'm probably gonna eat more tag soup... it's been a few years, I forgot what it feels like to eat tags two weeks in a row :pout: I'm gonna need to bear down and figure something out for tomorrow!

Throw a blind up if you have to. Turkeys get use to it real quick unlike deer. Or you can use a tree umbrella. Yesterday was supposed to be down pour and turned out it rained all of 20 minutes and not bad at all.
As far as the coyotes don’t give up. My son had one on opening day stalk our decoy setup and my son shot him and he ran off. Son thought his hunt was finished I told him relax be patient. Hour later had group of birds come in and we both tagged out. We found the coyote later that afternoon about 100 yards from were he shot him.
Good luck
