After feeling pretty beat up from the NJ Bear Hunt, I finally got myself back out and into the woods right after the New Year.  Been hitting the woods hard, several different spots and zones, but at every location, it seemed that the deer were moving just at those last few minutes, those last few minutes when my eyes aren't at their best.  Even with shotgun permits, I couldn't, or chose not to make it happen . . . until last night.

Since falling and fracturing my elbow right before our opener in September, I have been shooting a borrowed 10 Point Crossbow as I haven't been able to get back to being able to shoot my compound, so with crossbow in hand, I went to a new spot yesterday and by 5:05pm I had about a dozen flatheads all bunched up approx 20 yards in front of me.  I took aim and waited for an opportunity.  As soon as I had a clear shot on one of the larger does, I took it and the results made me one happy hunter.  By the way, the transportation tag is on her back left leg.  If came off her ear (you should be able to see the black clip on her right ear), so I attached it to her leg.

Congrats! I was wondering where you were.

I was hoping to get back down to VA, but the season ended in the county I hunt, so I have to wait until next year now.  But, GOOD NEWS, the "On The Fence" property owners have asked that I leave the blind up to deter poachers and are looking forward to my return to help balance out the herd on their property . . . YAY, cause I know I left a bigger buck down there !!!

congrats Robin!  i noticed there were deer moving all over the place on my way home from work yesterday afternoon.  you picked the right day for it!

I've picked (and been out) almost every day in the last 2 weeks for it, but it didn't work out until yesterday when they actually moved earlier than last light :)

That's great! My son and I are leaving in a few hours to do some duck hunting down in VA. It's nice that the deer season ends on the first Saturday in January.
