Comfortable Boots suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I’m the worse when it comes to picking out a set of new boots for hunting. To many options for my brain lol. Anybody have any suggestions for a comfortable boot that is at least 16inches in height and waterproof. The last two sets I have owned were Mucks and as they start off comfortable, it always seems like after a year or two the heel in the boot wears down and starts killing my feet. I pothunt for bow and drive during shotgun. During 6 day I put some miles on them as I’m trail captain for a club so basically walk every piece we push as I set all the guys out and then back to the trucks. I’m looking at a Pair of Rocky snake boots but was just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions I should look into.

Appreciate it, I’ll Deffintely go a size down and give that a shot. I get cold feet so at times I’m double layering on socks. Most of time when I get to stand I change out socks to fresh and a heavier pair on top and never really thought the boots were to big, but maybe the socks are making that seem that way.

Double layering socks is one of the worst things u can do.  Unless the first pair is a moisture wicking sock.  Doubling socks makes your feet sweat than when u sit u get cold.  I have muck as well I wear just dress socks till about 30 degrees any lower I have 2000 gram boots that I wear same sock

Are you looking for a snake boot or rubbers?? 16" is pretty tall boot.

I like the 16” inch for the fact that in drives you never know how deep of water you’ll be seeing. Even where I bow hunt, depending on the year and how wet, I need a tall boot for my walk  in.  I’ve always gone with rubbers and they hold up well in the briars and stuff, but a buddy of mine told me about his pair of snake boots and says he never had a issue of water getting in and they are comfortable for the amount of walking we do.

Alpha burly pro.  800,1000, or 1600 gr insulation. The more insulation the heavier they weigh.  I sealed all the seams when new and they haven't leaked or worn out like other boots have.  Had this pair for 4 years now.

What do you seal them seams with?

"think how dumb the average person is, then remember half of them are dumber than that"

This is a great suggestion. I had a pair of Cabelas rubber boots and the inside vertical seam by the heal ripped open after a while. Since then the first thing I do when I get a new pair of any rubber boots is put some E6000 epoxy on that seam and let it cure. I haven't had those seams on any boots rip again.

Cabelas Zoned Comfort 1200

I've tried a few kinds of rubber boots and I found I like the Cabelas Zoned Comforts. Not because they are anything great. They last me between 1 to 2 years - but I've found that's about all I get out of rubber boots (including the one $160 Alpha Burleys I had - they cracked something horrible after only 1 year). I buy these Cabelas Zoned Comfort because (a) they are comfortable and (b) I get them for $99 when they go on sale this time of year (tip - they are on sale now for $99, regular price is $140 - I would never pay $140 for these boots.) In fact just yesterday I ordered myself another pair. I don't need them now, I already have a pair I bought last year, but I fully expect those boots to crack and leak by this time next year so I plan on having these new pair on hand for when that happens. This is what I do... plan for the boots to crack and leak by having a second new pair on hand. Sucks, but that's the way it is. There are no good quality rubber boots that I've found. Even the expensive ones are going to leak if you use them more than a couple times a month.

Oh, and they aren't all that warm if you are sitting in a stand with them. Anything like below 30 degrees and I'll put hand warmers in there if I plan on being out more than a few hours sitting in a stand. If I am walking, my feet won't get too cold in these.

Bought new rubber boots recently. Went with dry shod (original owners/creators of Muck). Worth a look as they are super comfortable. Gumleaf is a higher end all-rubber boot that is worth the price tag depending on what you’re looking for.

I almost went with DryShod when I was looking yesterday (they are also on sale for $99) but a few of the reviews complain about the same ol' things I complain about all other rubber boots I've had, and since I wasn't sure how their sizes are (I'm a 10.5, so not sure if a 10 or 11 is best) I stuck with the Cabelas.

I looked at the Gumleafs - but at between $300 to $400, those are a hard sell UNLESS I could be sure they would last me over 5 years. Then they would be worth it IMO. However, I also see you need do some maintenance on them a few times a year - so add another $20 for the boot care product and be prepared to remember to take care of your rubber boots... their website says, "To maximize the durability of your Gumleaf USA boots and protect your investment, we highly recommend treating them at least 2 to 3 times per year with Granger’s Rubber Boot Care – available at the time of boot purchase ONLY. "
