finance mother gave me a coupon for omaha steaks. i have obviously heard of them before, but i have never cooked or ate anything from omaha. of course their website makes everything look really good. but whats it like when you get it? how do they keep the raw meat cold during shipping? and of course if you had an omaha steak how did you like it?

this coupon includes:

2-5oz filet mignons

2-5oz top sirloins

2-boneless pork chops

4-boneless chicken breasts

4-steak burgers

4-kielbasa sausages

15 oz meatballs

4-3oz potatoes au gratin

4- caramel apple tartlets

omaha steak seasoning packet

original price for this is 219.91 and the coupon has all of that for 49.99

what do you think? order it just to find out? only concern is how does the meat stay fresh during shipping???

Funny, I was just talking to a group  about this very same thing ... The stuff is shipped in dry ice. Not allowed to be air cooled.. Why?.. Don't know... Also, those who have tried it say the stuff is really top shelf...  Never tried it myself though..

I don't actually think the quality of their meat is that good at all. Pretty much just overhyped and overpriced. If it's only going to cost you $50, then go for it. Other than that, you're better off finding a decent butcher shop, finding a local farm on eatwild.com or localharvest.org or using a place like us wellness meats if you like mail ordering meat

I consider myself a steak snob and only ordered from them once.  It's as good as supermarket meat, but not even close to good butcher meat.  Was not impressed at all with their meats.  Maybe I am spoiled by my local butcher, but I won't order from them again because I can spend my money locally and get a better, fresher product.

Oh, one additional thing to note:  They do package their meats well and with dry ice as mentioned.  In the box there is a really nice styrofoam cooler with their name on it.  I took mine and wrapped it in camo duct tape and the wife made a duct tape handle for the lid.  It's now my outdoors "I don't care what happens to it" cooler for beers and other fun events.  So don't throw out the packaging as it will come in handy for a whole bunch of things.
